Grading The Bears DraftBears Gab
Well, now that the smoke has begun to clear, and the dust is settling. I think it is time I begin to try to grade the Bears draft. I think there are two critical criteria you look at when initially grading the draft: 1) Were needs met at critical positions? 2) Was there good value in the talent drafted? With that said, I think the answer to the first questions is a resounding ...
Kiper, "Bears Most Improved!"Windy City Gridiron
Ignoring the whole "didn't draft a QB" thing, post draft Mel Kiper has said that no team helped themselves more than the Chicago Bears. Chris Williams is the left tackle the Bears need from a pass-protection standpoint, and he'll start as a rookie. Matt Forte is a hard-nosed running back. He's not flashy, but he's elusive. I like what the Bears did on Day 2, starting with ...
2008 NFC North Draft GradesFootball Jabber
Chicago Bears Needs: OL, WR, RB, QB, DL Between inconsistent play, injuries and free agency, the Bears need a complete retooling on offense. Both starting receivers, Bernard Berrian (Vikings) and Muhsin Muhammad (Panthers), left via free agency. Cedric Benson produced sporadically before suffering a severe ankle injury and there is little prognosis on his comeback. Rex Grossman [...]
Jerry Angelo Explains Lack Of QBWindy City Gridiron
I  know many are wondering why the Bears did not select a QB in this draft.  This very question was asked on the Bears site to  Larry Meyer and he quoted some lines from Bears GM Jerry Angelo. The Bears entered the 2008 draft determined to land as many players they viewed as eventual starters as they possible could regardless of position, and they accomplished that with ...
An Early AssessmentWindy City Gridiron
Here are ten assessments/predictions concerning the Bears draft picks for next year . 3. I know I am in the uncomfortable position of agreeing wholeheartedly with Mel Kiper Jr. that the Bears improved as much, if not more, than any other team in the draft. Whether that means they went from a 6-10 team to a 7-9 one or from 8-8 to 9-7, well, that will take training camp to crystallize ...

New Bears QB Nick Hill: An In-Depth LookChicago Bull
Have to say I was pretty happy with Bears draft overall. If they picked Mendenhall instead of Williams I would have been unbelieavbly pissed. You're not going to run the ball to any amount of success without displaced Fred "Why won't my feet move?" Miller. I would have prefered to see them draft Ray Rice instead of Forte, but I'll let the offensive drafting guru that isn't Jerry Angelo have ...
Jerry Angelo is NegligentChicagoSportsBlogs : Non Compete : Bears
Negligent is a strong word. There was an article floating around from Peter King today that graded the Bears draft this past weekend. It pretty much summarized my angst towards this organization. Here is a snippet: The three teams I didn't like: 1. Chicago. The Bears had 12 draft choices this year. No quarterback picked. Chicago had nine draft choices in 2007. No quarterback picked. ...
Monday Morning Quarterback?Arin It Out
Here we are on Monday and the Chicago Bears went everywhere in the draft except QB.  Throughout the draft on Sunday, The GM and I had plenty of things to toss around while we waited for the Colts' picks to come around.  The most popular topic was:  "When are the Bears going to draft a quarterback?"  Well, as you can see from the picture above, the most logical answer in ...
Bears Refuse to Tackle Number One Problem in Draft.ChicagoSportsBlogs : Non Compete : Bears
I had over 100 emails before 11 am this morning. Ah yes, the Draft! I correctly predicted our first pick, Chris Williams. But then again, so did everyone else. No real surprise there. The second pick was predicted correctly by our sometimes-guest writer, CDub. Matt Forte was a pretty productive back in college. It may have only been Tulane, but this kid roughs hard and loves playing football. ...
Bears bring in QBs Hanie, HillESPN.com - NFL Nation Blog
Posted by ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas The Bears are very serious when they say they're going to let Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton compete for the starting quarterback job. They traded away Brian Griese and didn't pursue any quarterbacks in the draft or free agency. But there finally was some movement at the position Monday. The Bears signed Colorado State's Caleb Hanie and Southern Illinois' ...
BEARS DRAFT THOUGHTSZoner Sports
Overall I thought the Bears did a decent job of addressing their needs. But I think they should have flip-flopped their 2nd & 3rd rounders. Before the Bears picked Matt Forte, a run of receivers had just occurred. 5 of the 1st 11 picks of round 2 were WRs. Staring the Bears in the face were several receivers that were ranked as possible first rounders with big play ability: Limas Sweed, ...
A Rough DraftFoul Balls
I'm going to get to my "expert" breakdowns of each Bears draft pick from over the weekend shortly, but before I do, I just want to express how much I hated this draft. While I don't really like taking offensive lineman in the first round, it's just not much fun, I completely understood and agreed with the move to take Chris Williams. Even if my heart wanted the Bears to go with local boy and
Grading The DraftWindy City Gridiron
Here is what some prominent sites are saying about the Bears 2008 draft. ESPN (Kiper): GRADE: B Chris Williams is the left tackle the Bears need from a pass-protection standpoint, and he'll start as a rookie. Matt Forte is a hard-nosed running back. He's not flashy, but he's elusive. I like what the Bears did on Day 2, starting with Vanderbilt WR Earl Bennett , who reminds me of ...
BEARS DRAFT REVIEWDocksquad Sports
We will be back soon with a writeup regarding our thoughts on the Bears Draft, and how they did. For now, we really like the fact that they addressed a lot of immediate needs and got some really good players later in the draft today as well. We all know we didn't get a QB, but I have heard they were looking to take Andre Woodson who went just before our picks in the 7 th round. I also heard ...

2008 NFL Draft: Day 2 RecapBlog Down, Chicago Bears
Any congratulations for correctly guessing the Bears’ first two picks can be withdrawn now permanently. Day Two saw the Bears pick no one from my final mock draft. Still, many of the needs I felt the Bears would address, were addressed. The Bears picked Vanderbilt wide receiver Earl Bennett and Arkansas defensive tackle Marcus Harrison in Round 3. [...]
