The Western all-stars
Published 1/10/2008 by James Mirtle at james mirtle
The NHL released the full rosters for the Western Conference today at noon. The team looks reasonably close to the one I put together yesterday , with a few tweaks to try and fit in a player from every team. Players missing: Ilya Bryzgalov, Brent Burns, Derek Morris, Mike Ribeiro, Brenden Morrow, Patrick Sharp, Kristian Huselius, Jonathan Toews* Players on team: Manny Legace, Duncan Keith, Ed Jovanovski, Jason Arnott, Marian Gaborik, Anze Kopitar, Rick Nash, Henrik Sedin No one really undeserving there, although I do think Sharp or Patrick Kane should have been the ...

Scorcoff an All-Star

Finally, some well-deserved recognition for Shawn Horcoff (check out this thread at Mirtle's site for some Horcoff-related amusment). Glove-tap to Rickibear for the news. Also, did you know Chris Pronger supports Rudy Giuliani? You do now. Crosby.
Ducks win; Links are on me!

First off, a hearty congratulations goes out to the BoC All-Stars, all named today (I guess Californians were saving their votes for the presidential primaries): From the Sharks, C Joe Thornton and G Evgeni Nabokov. From the Ducks, C Ryan Getzlaf and D Chris Pronger. And from the Kings, everyone's favorite raccoon C Anze Kopitar. Pretty much all of these were fairly expected selections, but congrats nonetheless. ...
The Guess Who suck; the Jets were lousy anyway

... town was the 1979 Avco Cup. The Jets are being lead by Shane Doan and Radim "The Dream" Vrbata, who has suddenly almost become a point-a-game player (and to think, last year he was a desperate, waiver-wire pick-up in the hockey bloggers pool). In goal, cast-away Ilya Bryzgalov's .925 save percentage is a solid 10 points better than the man he wasn't good enough to back up in Anaheim. Black is white, up is down, et cetera. In happier news, though, Shawn Horcoff has officially made the Western Conference All-Star Team . Congratulations to Horcoff, but I can't help but think ...

Guess Who's Going to the All-Star Game

... his due this year and it's well deserved. Despite only having 5 points in his last 14 games, he's still averaging a point per game as he puts in over 20 minutes of ice-time each night including time on both the powerplay and penalty kill. He may be stretched thin with the absence of Joe Sakic and Ryan Smyth but it's amazing how complete a player he is at such a young age.
