On NHL Draft day, consider yourselves sufficiently mocked
Puck Daddy — ... to be second only to the Major League Baseball mock draft in blind estimation and utter unpredictability. Take the Chicago Blackhawks: In seven different NHL Mock Drafts we surveyed, they were predicted to select five different players with the 11th pick: Colten Teubert, Colin Wilson, Zach Boychuk, Greg Nemiscz and Luca Sbisa. This whole thing pretty much makes Dr. Ian Malcolm's chaos theory look like an exact science by comparison. Check out the following Mock Drafts at My NHL Draft, Draft Nation, The Hockey News, The National Post, ...

Hockey Mockery
Kuklas Korner — Can someone please explain what is the appeal of “mock drafts”?  To echo Jamie Fitzpatrick’s question on the subject today: “What exactly is the point of these exercises?” Some links—a few of which I shamelessly ripped off from Puck Daddy today—include My NHL Draft, Draft Nation, The Hockey News, The National Post, TSN, The Milford Daily News, Illegal Curve and NHL Draft Site. No disrespect intended; they look like a lot of work to put ...

How do you want the Dallas Stars' season to end?
Defending Big D — ... Currently, the Stars sit in the ninth position in the draft. This means they will be included in the draft lottery that determines the number one overall pick, with a weighted system applied to each corresponding ranking at the end of the season. The Stars have a 4.7% chance of winning the lottery, but NHL rules dictate that teams can only move up a maximum of four spots in the draft. So conceivably, if the Stars stayed in ninth at the end of the season they could move as high as the 5th overall pick. But what happens with an 0-3-0 finish? ...

Bolts by the Bay | A Tampa Bay Lightning Blog — ... fewest points had the chance to win the first overall selection; no team could move up more than four spots and no team could move backward more than one. The main reason why it was so important to finish in one of the top two spots, was this draft has two consensus sure-fire NHL studs at the top of it.  The NHL draft is different than most of the major sports leagues, in that the top players, generally are never busts.   Let’s get into some analysis obatined from MyNHLDraft.com.  Jon Tavares - This player is a future ...

Mock Draft: MyNHLDraft
Blue Seat Blogs — ... In the next installment of our mock drafts, we follow the guys over at My NHL Draft. Their draft is actually more reflective of how I would do the draft, with the Islanders taking Victor Hedman #1 overall. You can’t pass on an 18-year old 6′4 220 lb defenseman who can score, hit, and play well in all three zones. They are incredibly rare. He would be the rock on defense that DiPietro so desperately needs. But then again, from a management standpoint, you can’t pass on Tavares and the revenue he would bring to Long Island. ...

I'll be honest - I took a pass on geeking out on this year's draft (bad blogger, I know). Last year, besides dropping some knowledge on the top prospects' skills, I could tell you that Keaton Ellerby's favorite movie is "Blow" and that Jakub Voracek's favorite actors are Kurt Russell and Martin Lawrence. This year? Once I get past Stamkos, Filatov and a handful of defensemen, I'm pretty much

SI.com's Allan Muir has his 2008 NHL mock draft* up, and while he has the Caps taking a two-way defenseman named Tyler Cuma with the 23rd pick overall, this line stuck out to me: "A goaltender wouldn't be a surprise at this spot, considering the disappointing development of 2006 first-rounder Semen Varlamov..."
