Nats Track 4/11: Marching Backwards
Home Run Derby — ... Win Total:I have the under on 71.5 and have the Nats pegged for 65 wins.   The team is 3-7 and a -9 on run differential.  Simple average pace has them at 49 wins (which is meaningless but fun to point out), baseball reference suggests they Nats should be one game better than their record.  ...

The Way We Was: Week 2
Capitol Punishment — This is rock bottom right? Like last year, it has to get better. Look at the team's batting stats . Only Nick Johnson and Lastings Milledge are doing about what we expected. Guzman is exceeding expectations, but other than those three, every other batter is stinking up the park to some degree. One of these days, one or more of them is going to hit. Water, as the ol' cliche goes, finds its level, and right now we're at about 19,999 leagues. But a win is a win, and while a 9th win in a row is certainly sweet, one ending a 9-game losing streak tastes pretty good too. (Just be ...

It Could Be Worse. (SABR Matt)
DETECT-O-VISION — I ve just been through the looking glass, and my experience brightened my outlook on a gloomy 2008 season. The Ms are 18-32 and you have every right to be depressed and utterly frustrated with the Ms. But for those of you who might not be aware it could be worse. Put down the pitchforks and beer cans for a minute and take a look at this roster . Let s compare using my Red Light/Green Light analysis (green if you can win your next pennant with him, black if it s unclear and red if you cannot), shall we? The Nats big franchise player, Ryan Zimmerman, is at best an average-solid ...

6/14: Open Game Thread
Lookout Landing — ... Look at this. Look at this. Sweet Zombie Jesus Bedard ought to throw at least like four no-hitters before the end of the night. ...

Jim Bowden - Trash Collector
Dugout Central — ... Okay, on to Bowden, who makes Omar look pretty decent. If you have some extra time, do me a favor. Go to the Nationals page on Baseball Reference and tell me how many guys you would want on your team. I’ve given Giants GM Brian Sabean a bunch of crap for being incompetent (and he is), but at least that guy has Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain on the roster. ...

The return of Tuesday Nats Stats: "Who's league average?"
Federal Baseball — ... So, with all the unkind references to the "NAAAts" that you see around the interwebs, I thought I'd take a look at how close we are to league average. Stats, as usual, from the estimable baseball-reference.com.  As always, "league average" on stats like OPS+ is 100: higher than 100 is above average; lower than 100 is below average.  So, who's league average? Answers after the jump! ...

W.A.R. and Remembrance: the 2008 Nats
Federal Baseball — ... We all remember what a disaster 2008 was in terms of injuries and constant lineup and position shuffles.  Here's a quick, position-by-position recap with # innings at each position (courtesy baseball-reference.com): ...

Ask yourself : Are you better off now than you were 1 year ago?
mvn.com 4/11/2008 — 2007: 2-8 2008: 3-7 On the surface the improvement seems minimal, if at all. The offense isn’t putting out those big games you’d like to see. The pitching has been giving up more runs than you’d see at a Jason Simontacchi ...

Hudson baffles Nats in shutout victoryMajor League Baseball News 4/12/2008
Whenever Tim Hudson opposes the Nationals, he usually needs just a little bit offensive support. Fortunately for the Braves, Yunel Escobar was there to provide all that Hudson needed to defeat the Nationals, 3-0, at Nationals Park on Friday night.
