Jeter, Teixeira named All-Star starters; Rivera also named to team
Scott Proctor's Arm - A New York Yankees Blog —
Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira were named American League All-Star starters at their respective positions. Teixeira was in a hotly-contested race with Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis. Mariano Rivera was the only Yankee named to the pitching staff of the American League. No Yankees were chosen as reserves. The complete roster can be found here. ...
Catcher Brian McCann the only Braves player to make the NL All-Star team
Sports Page Atlanta —
... The NL All-Star starters and reserves were announced today, and the only Braves player to make the team was catcher Brian McCann. This is McCann's fourth straight All-Star appearance. He was beaten out for the starting job by Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (St. Louis is hosting the All-Star game, so there may be some ballot stuffing going on).
There were several other candidates on the Braves to make the All-Star team, including Chipper Jones, Javier Vazquez, Jair Jurrjens, and Rafael ...

Congratulations, Brian McCann -- Tough Noogies, Chipper Jones and Javy Vazquez
Atlanta Braves —
The Braves have one All-Star this year, Brian McCann. Brian won't be starting, though -- that nod goes to Yadier Molina, because St. Louis fans are more committed ballot-stuffers, I guess. And Chipper Jones, coming off a batting title, will be staying at home. So will Javier Vazquez, #2 in the NL in K's. Jason Marquis won't -- he's one of two Rockies, along with Brad Hawpe. ...
Heap the lone All-Star for the Braves..
Atlanta Braves —
I'm not really one for the All-Star game...to a point. But the fact that Brian McCann is Atlanta's lone All-Star irks me. Though for McCann, he's been elected to the All-Star game every year he's been in the league, which is a great thing. Plus I think it speaks volumes that each time Heap has been elected it's been by his peers. ...
Wakefield Named to All-Star Team
Sports of Boston —
Six members of the first place Red Sox were named to the American League All-Star team on Sunday. Among them is 42-year-old knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, who will be making his first All-Star team. He was personally selected by manager Joe Maddon, and why not? Despite an average 4.30 ERA, Wakefield sports a 10-3 record (he had just 10 wins all last season).

Wake Makes All-Star Team
Fenway West - A Boston Red Sox Blog —

Congratulations Braun and Fielder!
Right Field Bleachers —
... Looking at the rosters, it’s hard to say any of the NL closers that were named are less worthy of Hoffman. That being said, I think Yovani got a raw deal. He is more deserving than both Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis. That’s a result of the one player minimum per organization, as they both are the lone representatives of their respective teams. I guess it comes down to Yovani against Marlins’ starter Josh Johnson and Dodger’s starter Chad Billingsley. Yo and Johnson have very similar numbers, but Billingsley’s numbers are a bit less impressive. ...
A Large Regular — Thoughts on the NL All-Star Roster You can find the full NL roster here. Some thoughts on the NL selections. You could argue that Benjie Molina is having a better season than his brother Yadier but that's a coin flip at best and what the heck - they are keeping it in the family. Orlando Hudson started off hot but has really cooled off. He's probably getting the Tim Wakefield good guy slot. Was Cincinnati's Francisco Cordero more deserving than teammate Johnny Cueto or did Cuerto get stuck because of the arbitrary ratio of starters to closers? ...
Tim Wakefield is an All Star
The Bottom Line —
... Beckett also made the team - giving the Sox three pitchers when you include Jonathan Papelbon. Wake has won 10 or more games in 11 of his 15 seasons with the Red Sox and the guys at Surviving Grady feel he has been the face of the franchise. I can't say I disagree and it's so great to see him finally make an All Star squad. Now Wake will make a push to earn 2000 strikeouts and possibly pass Roger Clemens and Cy Young for the most victories in Red Sox history at 192. Congrats Wake! Full All Star roster.
Teixeira, Jeter voted All Star Game starters
River Avenue Blues —
After weeks of going back and forth with Kevin Youkilis, Mark Teixeira was announced as the starting first baseman for the American League All Star Team today. Derek Jeter will also start the game at short. Congrats to those two. Mariano Rivera was the only other Yankee elected to the game. Interestingly, the Mets are sending four players to the game, the most of any National League club.

All Star Rosters: We Got Some Problems
MLB Babble —
... The All Star rosters were announced today, expanding to 33 players apiece so as to avoid tie games and depleted pitching staffs. Many of the starters this year are deserved, but others are not, and this brings up a major issue: fan voting. It is simply ludicrous that the fans have 100% control over who starts the All Star game. ...
Braun, Fielder Earn All-Star Bids
The Bucky Channel - The World of Sports from Wisconsin's Perspective. —
... fans efforts to get guys like Jason Kendall and Bill Hall into the All-Star game, only two Brewers ended up making the squad. Ryan Braun lead all National League outfielders in the fan voting, and will start in left field for the second season in a row. Prince Fielder has made the team as a reserve at first base, and will likely see one at-bat at most. I can't remember the last time a Brewer really made a key impact in an All-Star game, so hopefully Braun can perform next Tuesday. Here's a list of the entire roster for both squads. ...
All-Star Acquisitions
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com —

FDH Lounge: How the MLB All-Star rosters should be filled
Outside the Boxscore —
Every year, the fans generally shame themselves in at least a few areas in the All-Star voting – even if it happens less often than it did when I was a kid. The managers always shame themselves as well, as do others contributing to the roster shaping. This year was no exception in both areas. Here are the rosters. I would honestly like to know what kind of mouth-breathers thought it would be a good idea to tarnish their All-Star ballots with the likes of Dustin Pedroia? Or Josh Hamilton (who I have on one of my roto teams, so I’m not being a hater here)? Or David ...
All-Star Rosters Are All Set
Babes Love Baseball —
The starting rosters for your 2009 All-Star teams are all set, and the American League roster is loaded with Boston Red Sox players. Business as usual, thanks to the fan-voting. Don't even get me started. Speaking of the Sox, Tim Wakefield is an All-Star virgin at the age of 42, while Albert Pujols, the leading vote-getter, will be donning the National League jersey for the eighth time in his career. Derek Jeter finished at the top of the AL tallies for the first time, marking his tenth Midsummer Classic. ...

No true no-name on the roster, as even Pittsburgh’s representative — Freddy Sanchez — is fairly deserving of his spot.

All-Star lineups contain usual meaninglessness
3:10 To Joba —
.nobr br { display: none } Oh look, the All-Star lineups came out! (makes dimissive masturbatory gesture) I won't bother typing them all out but you can read them here if you'd like. Now, onto my reactions for each league respectively. The AL Perhaps the most glaring omission is Texas 2B Ian Kinsler. While both Dustin Pedroia and Aaron Hill certainly should be on the roster, the fact that Kinsler is one of those left out in the cold to be decided by fan voting seems a bit unfair. ... Olney does, however, admit that Hart would obviously not be sufficient on his own to land a pitcher of Vazquez's caliber, so another solid piece would have to be added. One would think that Doug Melvin would entertain moving Mat Gamel in such a deal, as Javier Vazquez is signed through the 2010 season. It would not be a rent-a-player type of deal. Then again, Manny Parra would be an interesting addition to the package as well.
