MLBTR Predictions - Matt the Mets?
The Real Dirty Mets Blog —
Tim Dierkes over at MLB Trade Rumors has released his predictions for where his top 50 free agents of the offseason will sign.
Tim believes the Mets will sign three of the top fifty players. The big name for the Mets, according to Tim, will be Matt Holliday. Holliday finished his 2009 season with 24 home runs, 109 RBI, and an OPS of .909. After being traded to the Cardinals mid-season, Holliday caught fire though, hitting for an OPS of 1.023. His post-season was marred by an error on a line-drive, that led to a Cardinals loss in game 2 of the Division ...

Weekend Update: Gonzo, Mauer, Bay, Harden
The Bottom Line —
... seeing Cuddyer rewarded for a solid season, but if you ask me, all they did was add a few million to Mauer's price tag. If Cuddyer makes $10M, Mauer should demand $20M at a minimum. With $10M locked up in Cuddyer, Justin Morneau set to make $14M in 2011 and 2012 and Joe Nathan making 11M+ in 2011 and 2012... I just don't see how the $70M Twins will be abale to afford Mauer. Should Mariners be interested in Hideki Matsui?
Mariners blog —
... that Hideki Matsui, fresh off his World Series MVP performance for the New York Yankees, would be a logical fit with the Mariners now that his contract has expired in the Big Apple. It shouldn't take long to sort this one out, as if the Mariners indeed are interested in Matsui, surely they don't need Griffey occupying the same designated hitter role. FOX baseball analyst Tim McCarver tossed out the idea during the World Series. Now mlbtraderumors.com links Matsui to the M's as one of its top 50 free-agent possibilities this offseason . If Griffey re-signs with the M's before ...

MLBTradeRumors.com Names Top 50 Free Agents and Destinations
YanksBlog.com —
Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com has his annual list of the top 50 free agents in baseball, along with his prediction for the destination of the player. It's mainly a fun list as it's near impossible to actually predict most of these and even the ones you get tend to be in some way affected by luck. But, for the sake of discussion, he has John Lackey (number 2 overall) going to the Yankees, along with Andy Pettitte (6) and Johnny Damon (12). He suggests Matsui will end up in Seattle.

Carlos Delgado An Option At First For The O’s?

(It should be noted that Troy Glaus, among others, wasn’t on the list.) The O’s do have a hole at first-base, and could certainly use a slugger in the middle of their line-up. Twins Talk

... - Lovely reader Kate, who was the first one to turn me on to Iwamura, has indeed moved on, and is "literally drooling" over the thought of Adrian Beltre on the Twins (her words, not mine), and we've made no secret of our Beltre love here at DWG before. There is a lot that points to this being a possibility, including this article where mlbtraderumors.com predicts Beltre will end up a Twin, and the fact that he is a Type B free agent means the Twins won't have to give up a draft pick to sign him. The sort of large negative here is that Beltre actually had the ...

DG’s 10@10: Alternate Options for Cardinals’ Big Vacancy
Bird Land —
... Matt Holliday is the No. 1 free agent available, according to the MLBTradeRumors list. That’s a rather universal opinion. And it’s no surprise that MLBTR predicts he won’t be a Cardinal at the end of the winter. (They’ve got him going to the New York Mets.) What is somewhat of a surprise is that the Cardinals — who enter this winter with millions coming off the books and a thirst for a big bat and, apparently, a willingness to pay for a premium one — doesn’t do to well in the other predictions either . Not John Smoltz . He’s going to Detroit. Not Mark DeRosa . He’s going ...
