Huber Is Not Going to Make it Easy

... first baseman is the only way I can see that Huber might force his way onto the roster permanently. Say Huber gets eight or nine starts at DH or even (gulp) left field and goes 11 for 27 or something like that while at the same time Butler does not embarrass himself at first. Would that be enough for the Royals to give Huber a shot as the everyday DH? Just something to think about. Yesterday, I participated in a Roundtable discussion about the Royals. Well, the fine folks at Home Run Derby and Sky King have the first part of their 30-part preview of the 2008 baseball season up and you can click on the links. I find myself every season discounting the upcoming season’s results and looking toward its effects on a the future.  I guess that makes me baseball’s version of a Marxist:  forever looking forward to a distant, theoretical utopia in which all of my dreams will come to fruition. Also, I want everyone richer than me to share their money.

Royals not interested in Sosa.

There were reports from ESPNdeportes.com that the Kansas City Royals are getting renewed interest in Sammy Sosa. Now earlier in the off-season the Royals were definitely considering Sosa but didn’t like the demand for guaranteed regular playing time. Slammin’ Sammy is also good friends with outfielder Jose Guillen who has been pushing for the team to sign him.
