Yankees Considering Sexson?
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com — ... From Joel Sherman of the New York Post: The Yankee problems against lefty pitching are so dire that they will meet in the next day or so to determine whether to make a play for Richie Sexson, Hardball has learned. The Yankees have a .729 OPS against southpaws this year, which ranks 7th in the American League.  Sexson has a 1.045 OPS against lefties this year, but it's only been 70 plate appearances.  He was nothing special against lefties in 2006-07.  Peter Abraham offers his take on the idea of signing ...

The Tao of Stieb — ... Especially when the birth of this bastard child (did we just go there?) will result in Alex Rios opting to stay by the side of his girlfriend in the delivery room rather than playing in tonight's opener versus the Yankees. (Or so says the New York Post.) ...

Yankees to Meet With Sexson
New York Yankees — Joel Sherman over at the New York Post is reporting that the Yankees will meet with Richie Sexson in the next day or so. Sexson was just released by the Seattle Mariners, despite the fact that they still owe him about $7 Million.  He was a two-time all-star with the Milwaukee Brewers, but quickly declined after moving to Seattle.  In his first two years there, his power numbers remained strong, despite a slipping batting average.  However, in 2007 his power dried up - hitting only 21 homers with a .399 SLG - and his batting average sunk all the way to .205.  ...

Thanks, but no thanks
New York Yankees Fan Blog — As Brian Cashman uses the break to ponder how to improve the team, we sincerely hope he's not entertaining taking on Richie Sexson, who was recently waived by the M's. Rumors are swirling that he'll pick his team in the coming days, and the Yankees have been open about their interest in him . And, yeah yeah, we know: the point is that he'll hit lefties or something. But has the team checked the numbers? The idea that Sexson hits lefties isn't even right. People that are calling for Sexson are ...

About $50M and Nearly 500 K's Later, M's Wave Goodbye to Sexson
legendofcecilioguante.com 7/11/2008 — I really don't know much about Richie Sexson. Perhaps, Willie Bloomquist is right. An overrated, oversized one-dimensional whiner...

Just What The Yankees NeededYFSF
There's a power-hitting, high OBP lefty available on the market. Kills the ball. Not popular with the fans. Can't play defense, can't run. Would play for league minimum. Instead the Yankees sign Richie Sexson . At least we get to keep the "can't play defense, can't run, and not popular with fans" parts. He was born in Portland, Oregon so I have to root for him. Dammit.
