Mariners Make Putz Available
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com — ... According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mariners have made closer J.J. Putz available.  The Mets will talk with the Ms about him at next week's Meetings, but the Indians and other clubs will likely get involved.  It sounds like the Mets would be happy to acquire Putz rather than give four years to Francisco Rodriguez/Brian Fuentes or three to Kerry Wood. ...

Yanks Looking at Baldelli
Mike Silva's New York Baseball Digest — ... The New York Post reports today that the Yankees may be interested in free agent outfielder Rocco Baldelli. Those pesky, low-budget, scrappy underdog Red Sox, as well as the world-champion Phillies, are also interested. ...

DRaysBay — ... Joel Sherman Interesting... I love having Bradford in the bullpen, but if shedding some BP payroll (no thanks to Troy) brings in someone more valuable than I'd be all for it. Hat tip to MLB Trade Rumors. ...

Down and out
The 'Ropolitans | NY Mets Baseball Blog — My computer is on the fritz as I try and squeeze a few more months out of her before I cave in and buy a new one... A few quick hits: Don't trade Fernando Martinez, especially for Jermaine Dye. J.J. Putz is seemingly available. If you're going to trade F-Mart, make it for someone worthwhile, like Putz. Kahlil Greene looks like he's heading from San Diego to St. Louis. Boy, the Padres are going to be miserable next season. Winter meetings are only four days away. Prepare for an onslaught of news. I'm taking ...

Rays Put Bradford On Trade Block; Yanks Interested In Rocco
DRaysBay — Two quick hits this morning from Joel Sherman of the NY Post. First, The Rays made have put Chad Bradford on the market at least to the NY Mets. The Rays offered Chad Bradford to the Mets because $3.5 million is too much in Tampa's world for a set-up man, and Ray officials were shocked when the Mets told them it is too much for them, as well. With relievers like Bob Howry signing a deal for less than $3 million a year, it's going to be a tough sell for Friedman to move a specialist such as Bradford at a higher cost.  ...

Hot Stove: 12/4/08
Palm Ball NW/Bleeding Blue and Teal — J.J. Putz According to the New York Post, Seattle has made closer JJ Putz available.  Larry LaRue: “Well, duh.” This was expected.  Putz is one of Seattle’s more valuable trade chips, despite the 2008 struggles, and isn’t likely to be a key component to this upcoming season. The New York Mets are likely to remain Putz’s most aggressive suitor, as they’re said to prefer him to Francisco Rodriguez or Brian Fuentes.  The tough part is going to be getting the Mets to part with the necessary players.  ...

Putz in Play
Palm Ball NW/Bleeding Blue and TealAccording to the New York Post, Seattle has made closer JJ Putz available. This was expected. The best talent Seattle might pry from the Mets would be either Jon Niese or ...

Mets rumors swirling as winter meetings near
SILive: Ya Gotta Believe — The Hot Stove as at full burn today as Mets GM Omar Minaya prepares to head to Las Vegas for next week's winter meetings. Here are a few rumors making the rounds: * The Seattle Mariners have made closer J.J. Putz available, the Post is reporting . The Mets are said to like the 31-year-old as much, if not more, than they do free agents K-Rod and Brian Fuentes, and he'll be a ton less expensive. Wonder what Seattle's asking? * The Mets have been discussing a deal with the White Sox that would bring closer Bobby Jenks and outfielder Jermaine Dye to Citi Field, ...

Good Morning Rumormill! J.J. Putz Available
Tribe Report — Some great news hit my inbox this morning as an Indians fan. The Seattle Mariners are now willingly open to trading their closer J.J. Putz. The same Putz who was arguably the top shutdown closer in the game just two short seasons ago before giving his best "Wild Thing" Rick Vaughn impersonation with over five walks per nine innings in 2008. ...

Putz available are the Mets interested..
Mets Fever — ... What falls under the category of real, the Post has learned, is that the Mariners have made J.J. Putz available. The Mets plan on speaking to Seattle officials at the Winter Meetings, but they will have plenty of competition as many clubs are interested in Putz, such as the Indians. Putz is due $5 million in 2009 with an $8.6 million option in 2010 or a $1 million buyout. So he has the combination of cost certainty and a quality arm. source NY Post ...

Smart? Or Cheap?
The Musings and Prophecies of Metstradamus — ... likely another in a long line of pitching changes Snoop Manuel would have had to make last September. Yeah, Bradford would have been a better option than, say, Aaron Heilman, ooooooor ... Al Reyes. But he wasn't what that bullpen needed last season, and he's not what they need going forward unless the Mets decide they have to trade Joe Smith to significantly upgrade their team. What does bother me is the rationale that is floating around out there that Bradford was "out of their price range". "The Rays offered Chad Bradford to the Mets because ...

Will Mets Regret Passing Bradford Again?
Mike Silva's New York Baseball Digest — ... Joel Sherman reported yesterday that the Mets passed on Chad Bradford and his 3.5 million dollar salary in 2009. This would be the second time in three off seasons that the Mets spurned Bradford. The term penny wise and pound foolish came to mind when I heard this news. ...

[THE HANGOVER] Silent Gerry Appears To Be Staying Put
Rays Index — ... Joel Sherman of the New York Post says the Mets are not interested in trading for Chad Bradford, saying his $3.5 million salary is too much for them. Sherman also notes that "at least a half-dozen teams" have shown interest in Rocco Baldelli. We know of four, including the Rays, Phillies, Red Sox and Yankees. [New York Post] ...
