 A Day of Dastardly Dichotomy
On this the opening day of ‘08-09 NHL free agency Washington Capitals’ fans confronted the opposing twins of personnel movement outcome: morning elation with Mike Green’s signing and afternoon agony in the club’s failure to come to terms with season-salvaging, starting netminder Cristobal Huet. The Capitals this afternoon, having reached an impasse with Huet and his agent, signed Colorado’s Jose T [link]

We couldn’t come to terms with Cristobal Huet even though we met his ask and NOT for a lack of trying. We became very concerned that this player just didn’t want to sign with us so we had to move quickly to sign a new number one goaltender. We believe that Jose Theodore will fit in nicely in DC -Ted Leonsis at Ted’s Take
Signing Thoughts
from Jamie’s (Fitzpatrick) Hockey Blog, Thoughts on a few of the fat deals signed July 1, opening day of the 2008 NHL free agent season. G Cristobal Huet to Chicago: 4 years/$5.6 million per year G Jose Theodore to Washington: 2 years/$4.5 million per year Each man takes over as the top goalie on a young, exciting team looking to break through sooner rather than later. Getting to know Andrew Raycroft
For better or for worse, Jose Theodore is gone. Colorado didn’t want to pay $4.5 million a year. Washington did, and that’s that. There was some talk today that the Avs would end up with Cristobal Huet, but that turned out to be false (and thank goodness - Huet went to the Blackhawks for a whopping $5.65 million per year). Instead, the Avalanche signed Andrew Raycroft to a 1 ...
Theodore the Goalie
Uh, I'm not sure how this came around. I'll admit, I'm not a big Capitals guy, but I'm at least aware of the names in play. This one seems to have surprised many as Jose Theodore signed with Washington today . Apparently the Caps and Cristobal Huet were close, but not quite there. George McPhee decided he couldn't wait and got Theodore. I'd put in comments, but I don't have a great ...
Jose Theodore is a rather underwhelming Plan B for the Capitals
The free agent frenzy is typically filled with highs and lows. A high for Washington Capitals fans was the news that defenseman Mike Green would not sign a salary-on-steroids offer sheet with another team, and came back to the team for four years . The low was just announced, via TSN: Free agent Jose Theodore has been signed to a two-year deal to replace Cristobal Huet as the Capitals' primary ...
Capitals sign Theodore
From TSN: Washington signs UFA G Jose Theodore to a 2 year deal (undisclosed) Here is the link to the TSN report. One question: Why? Theodore is a downgrade from Cristobal Huet and is not consistent enough for a young team. His inconsistency was better managed by the veteran Avs last season. I don't particularly understand this signing.
