The U.S. national team begins World Cup qualifying today against Barbados at Home Depot Center. The Americans are heavily favored, but they also know that any sort of disappointing result will mean having to travel to Barbados to earn a result.

Nike is of Two Minds on This Soccer Thing —
I Dislike Your Favorite Team
And they may not be wrong. According to Nike, if you are a skilled Dutch player, you get to progress, with some bumps and bruises, to star level, and yes, you will be kissed by hot chicks, and Ronaldo (spot the difference there). You will have fun, you will succeed, and you will be badass!
However, if you are American--prepare to play in snow, to struggle, to fail. And yet, because of the
Chivas USA Post-Game —
100 Percent Soccer
An inexperienced goalkeeper, missing bodies that finally caught up with the team and players who weren't on form collectively contributed to the first-ever Chivas USA loss to Real Salt Lake in Carson.
"I don't think we were sharp, we had quite a few guys that weren't sharp and I didn't think the commitment was good from the get-go," said Preki, adding that's why he hauled off Jonathan ...

Chivas USA Coach Preki took off Jonathan Bornstein and Atiba Harris at half time, replacing them with Justin Braun and Raphael Wicky.
It didn't help.
Statistically, Chivas USA held the edge over RSL in the second half in terms of shots. But not on the score board.
Final score: 1-0 RSL.
The Galaxy, meanwhile, defeated San Jose 3-0 with Edson Buddle scoring all three goals for his ...

Real Salt Lake, looking for their first-ever win against Chivas USA in Carson (and their first on the road this season), found something to build on in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead through Robbie Findley, for his third goal of the season.
RSL, which showed more attacking initiative than Chivas USA, deserved the lead. Indeed, Chivas USA were held to zero shots on target.

USA bid for 2018 World Cup still on course —
Soccer By Ives
Remember when Jack Warner stated a week ago that he would urge the United States not to bid on hosting the 2018 World Cup ? It doesn't look like that message is going to be heard.
Sunday's USA-Argentina match, played in front of a near sellout just months after being announced, provided the latest evidence of the Unites States ability to host a successful World Cup again.

If a team ever needed a win, the New York Red Bulls needed one last week. Injuries, a lack of options on the roster and the completed transfer of Jozy Altidore had the Red Bulls heading into last Thursday' match against red-hot Chivas USA desperate for a victory. It didn't seem likely based the form of the two teams heading into the match, but that didn't matter to the Red Bulls.
