A-Rod regrets saying no to Mets, doesn't make same mistake with Yankees Updated Tuesday, March 25th 2008, 3:01 AM (Page 1 of 2) During spring training, Alex Rodriguez has mostly avoided discussion of his messy contract opt-out and offseason return to the Yankees , but apparently only because he didn't want to say something that might prove controversial, as is often his habit. A-Rod: I'm Planting My Roots In New York
Published 3/25/2008 by Mark M. at The Bronx Stop: Another New York Yankees Blog
Article courtesy of John Harper for the New York Daily News (Click Here To Read Full Story): As A-Rod looked back on the events of this past offseason, he seemed haunted by the idea that in breaking free of the Yankees he could have made another decision like the one he made in 2000 when he shunned the Met's for the big contract in Texas and wound up being unhappy for three long years. The three-time MVP says that at some point after his opt-out decision this October, he realized he could have been heading for a similar scenario, with Boras ...

... A-SURPRISE: The normally guarded Alex Rodriguez lets his hair down in an interview with the New York Daily News in which he says the biggest mistake he ever made was deciding to sign with the Rangers instead of the Mets in 2000 -- "I went for the contract when my true desire was to go play for the Mets" -- and that was at the base of his decision to stay with the Yankees . . . and to break with Scott Boras, whose first, last and only concern is chasing the very last nickel wherever it may be. "So to make the right decision just feels really good," Rodriguez ...

A-Rod Regrets Not Signing With Mets

... It’s been said for quite some time that Scott Boras is only interested in representing his clients’ monetary interests rather than personal interests. Alex Rodriguez admitted as much in a recent interview. He told the NY Daily News that he regrets not having signed with the Mets back when he was a free agent in 2000, the year he signed a 10 year $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers: ...

... : the Yanks have already sold a ridiculous 3.8 million tickets, while the team denied it's in talks to profit off of old Yankee Stadium memorabilia sales. The Daily News has an exclusive chat with A-Rod, but blows everything out of proportion (as is usually the case with anything A-Rod). So he wanted to be a Yankee and take "less money" to stay here? Sorry, but $275 million guaranteed ain't no hometown discount. Pete Caldera ...

Oh, $400 million to play in some place I hate? Great, I'll blow my --- head off.' "I wanted to remain a Yankee and for once I put my money where my mouth was. It felt good to make a decision on my own and execute it - to deal with Hank and Hal (Steinbrenner) on a one-on-one basis and get a deal done. "If people want to ...

ARod Regrets 24+1
Published 3/25/2008 by Dave at Mostly Mets
In today’s New York Daily News John harper writes about Alex Rodriguez and his decision to go to Texas for $252 million in 2000 instead of coming to play for the Mets. Though ARod has regrets about not playing for the Mets I can say that I do not. I agreed with the 24+1 idea that then general manager Steve Phillips said he was trying to avoid. But now that we’re several years removed two other reasons have surfaced to be glad that ARod didn’t sign with the Mets. They are Jose Reyes and David Wright . Tags: Alex Rodriguez , ...

FUNNY, IT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE OPENING DAY
Published 3/25/2008 by kranepool at Kranepool Society :: A New York Mets Blog
Someone in MLB that still has at least one or two brain cells that actually function has to step up and stop these opening days overseas. The Red Sox just defeated the Oakland A’s 6-5 in 10 innings (Manny Being Manny went 2/4 two 2b and 4 RBI  I love MANNY) in a game that should have been played at Fenway or the Al Davis Mausoleum but no some old white guy in MLB Office decided it was the right thing to do to play this game in Japan. So Sawx fans got up at 6AM and A’s fans got (or never went to bed) at 3AM and to top it all off from what I’ve read this morning DirecTV lost the signal on ESPN2 and NESN so fans were shout out for most of the game. Fucking brutal! ...

A-Rod regrets turning the Mets down: A-Rod may not be so money hungry afterall
Published 3/25/2008 by houroc at SportFiends
Alex Rodriguez mostly avoided talking about the whole situation with his contract negotiations in the offseason. For a while, it was all they talked about on ESPN. First Alex Rodriguez and his agent Scott Boras opted out of the highest contract in MLB history, in what seemed like only an effort to get more money. Whats the difference between 275 million and 300 million anyway? So Alex Rodriguez wasn’t havin it. His agent Scott Boras was pulling the strings and trying to get this ridiculous contract for his client but A-Rod chose to negotiate with the Yankees without him. Good move A-Rod. Rodriguez learned his lesson the last time around when he was a free agent in ...

A-Rod Talks Wistfully Of The Mets (Really) [Coffee Talk With Alex Rodriguez]

The timing could have been better for Alex Rodriguez, who sat down for a soul-searching interview with the New York Daily News on the same day that Jose Canseco was touting a new book, claiming that A-Rod took steroids. That publicity could have been used for damage control! At any rate, A-Rod tells columnist John Harper that he wishes he would have signed with the Mets instead of the Rangers, and that his opt out/opt-back-in drama with the Yankees was due in part to his daughter's fondness for her toys. "My wife and daughter both love New York," said A-Rod. "Four days after I opted out (and was living in Miami), my daughter says, 'I really miss my bedroom and my toys in New York.' I wanted ...

Unlikely Mets Fans
Published 4/22/2008 by joe at Mets Today
Last night during the SNY broadcast we were told the story of Indianapolis Colt star Dallas Clark, an unlikely Mets fan. It was kind of weird to see Clark wearing a David Wright jersey, partially because you just don’t do that in Wrigley Field and mostly because I don’t expect an NFL star to be that big of a fan of an MLB player. I know superstars are people too, and therefore it’s normal for them to be fans of other sports, but something just doesn’t seem right about a well-known professional athlete wearing another pro athlete’s name on his back. But more legitimately unusual is that Clark, who grew up in Iowa, is a diehard Mets fan. How does such a thing ...
