NEW YORK - The flashbulbs began popping around Yankee Stadium at a little after 8 last night. No. 13 in pinstripes stepped into the box to open the last of the second. Alex Rodriguez was finally ready to hit for the Yankees for the first time in three weeks. Too bad for A-Rod and the Yankees, they were already down by nine runs to the Orioles. Yankees saw Jeter leave with an injury. The captain got drilled by a Cabrera fastball on the side of his left hand during the third inning. The X-rays were negative. Jeter has a contusion and is day-to-day. He had it wrapped afterward, but Jeter vowed that he would be back in the lineup tonight. Tuesday night's game has to be rock bottom. It just has to be. As bad as this team has looked recently - and they've been awful - there is no conceivable way they can play as worse as they played in the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles. It was supposed to be a night of new beginnings. While the weather was awful, Yankees fans saw a ray of hope in Alex Rodriguez .
