... Eric Patterson and Matt Murton round out the field of players shipped to the Bay. I’d heard Murton’s name on almost everyone’s wish list as a player to be packaged in on this deal and I’m happy to see him come. He could be a good backup in the oft-depleted outfield. Athletics Nation commentors compares him to a Kieltyesque player and that’s a fair comparison. Patterson has been up and down with Chicago all year and appears to be a Class AAAA player as his stats at AAA Iowa were huge (.320 with 6 bombs and 28 RBI in 52 ...

... 6 starts. The Cubs will do fine without Opie Murton, a former top prospect who has bounced between Triple-A Iowa and Chicago in his fourth season, just to bat .250. Meanwhile, Gallagher is 3-4 with a 4.45 ERA over 12 games for the PCL Cubs. Corey Patterson's little brother has already been sent down four times this year, so the Cubs aren't missing out there, either. It would seem they came out on top of this deal for the meantime.
