Rosenthal's Latest: Fuentes, Sherrill, Nady, Kemp, Guthrie
Published 7/22/2008 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
New Rosenthal. Let's take a look.
Rosenthal says the Marlins are in on Brian Fuentes and other top relievers, and they're more focused on bullpen help than a catcher. The Marlins' interest in Fuentes was first reported by the Denver Post's Troy E. Renck on July 9th.
Sources tell Rosenthal that the Brewers aren't likely to pay up for a top ...
Tampa Bay Targeting Casey Blake?
Published 7/22/2008 by Mr. Fleece at MLB Fleece Factor
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Tampa Bay Rays could be targeting Indians’ third baseman and versatile veteran CaseyBlake in trade talks. The issue with Blake is that he has not played the outfield regularly in a few seasons. Tampa Bay, as well as the NY Mets (who have been rumored to have interest in Blake), would utilize him as an outfielder.
Blake, who turns 35, is a free agent this coming off-season. He has been hot for Cleveland as of late, increasing his valuer in the trade market.

Marlins Entering Fuentes Derby?
Published 7/22/2008 by Mr. Fleece at MLB Fleece Factor
The Florida Marlins could be looking to add a player, such as Colorado’s closer Brian Fuentes, in order to make a run at the N.L. East division crown. According to Foxsports, the Marlins have turned their attention to adding a reliever as opposed to a veteran catcher prior to July 31st.
Interesting, it’s good to see the Marlins being pro-active in the market, perhaps. If you’re a baseball fan you have to love that. As for now, it is believed that the Rockies’ asking price is extraordinarily high, considering how many teams have expressed interest in the closer.

It’s Raining Rumors: Rays eyeing Blake, Teixeira?
Published 7/22/2008 by Tommy Rancel at Outs Per Swing
It’s raining and I’m sitting in traffic so I figured I should post some of the latest rumors I’ve been hearing.
I first talked about this rumor back on July 7th, but for the past day or two the hot name I’ve been hearing is Casey Blake. The Indians, 34 year old four corner(1B/3B/LF/RF) fielder, is available and the Rays are targeting him. Blake is a right handed hitter who handles lefties pretty well. Coming into play tonight his is hitting .287/.363/.464 with 11 HR and 58 RBI overall. Against LHP he is hitting .318/.416/.500. He is a free agent at the end of the season and will be 35 next month so his price tag should be considerably less ...
Deadline Countdown: Nine Days
Published 7/23/2008 by Will Schaffer at Chop-n-Change
With nine days until Major League Baseball’s non-waiver deadline, it is still unclear in which direction Frank Wren will take the team. At 47-53, the Braves sit seven games back of the division-leading Phillies but the next eight games (including a three game set at Philadelphia) could mean the difference between Wren acquiring bat for a post-season run and waving the white flag on this season to better the chances of a run in 2009. Here is the latest news on the trade font:
TR Sullivan of mlb.com suggests that Mike Gonzalez could fit the Rangers’ need for a reliever. This may be the most ridiculous trade speculation I’ve seen from a reputable writer, especially since he mentions ...
Texas Trade Winds Swirl As White Sox Demolish Rangers, 10-2
Published 7/23/2008 by Joey Matschulat at Baseball Time in Arlington
With just over 200 hours remaining until Major League Baseball’s July 31st non-waiver trade deadline, the Texas Rangers have essentially failed to make even a microscopic dent in the mountain of questions that continue to bury their front office personnel alive.
Despite possessing a 52-49 record that represents a seven-game improvement over where the Rangers were at the 101-game mark in 2007, lateral movement in the American League West and Wild Card standings since the conclusion of the All-Star break has placed general manager Jon Daniels and company in a difficult spot.
Buy, sell, hold, or some convoluted mix of all three? It’s the million dollar question. And though the ...
