African Cup of Nations Preview: Mali
Published 1/10/2008 by Daryl at World Cup Soccer - South Africa 2010
The countdown continues and we are now 11 days and 11 team previews away from African Cup of Nations kick off. After getting to know all of Group A, we began Group B yesterday with Benin, and continue profiling the “Group of Death” with Mali. Mali have either a brilliant or abysmal African Cup of Nations record, depending on how you look at it, three La Liga superstars, one Premier League midfielder, one incredibly tall striker and one (if you believe everything you read on Wikipedia) impossibly small coach. Come on in and meet Mali. Nickname: The Eagles (like the ...

African Cup of Nations Preview: Sudan
Published 1/13/2008 by Daryl at World Cup Soccer - South Africa 2010

There are now just five days until African Cup of Nations kick off, which means just five more teams to preview. We’ve already met all of Group A and Group B and now we finish Group C with Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions have one of Africa’s most experienced coaches, one of the world’s greatest players and a proud and successful footballing history (if you ignore some of the team’s more questionable fashion choices.) Africa Cup of Nations Begins: Open Thread
Published 1/20/2008 by Tom Dunmore at Pitch Invasion
I’ve read all the previews. I’ve gaped at the ongoing controversy over it epitomised by Blatter’s big mouth demanding the cup be moved. I’m impressed by the determination of fans to make it to Ghana and cheer on their teams despite the obstacles. And there’s something particularly attractive about an international tournament without all those familiar European teams clogging it up. Frankly, I’m excited for it to begin today. Of course, many of the players from African nations are more and more familiar to ...
