What’s Eating TNA Wrestling’s Creative Team?
JarryPark.com - How's Taste My Website? — As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I appeared on Fight Network Radio to talk a little wrasslin’. This time around host John Pollock and I moslty spoke about the mysteries surrounding TNA iMPACT! (including Shark Boy’s “new” gimmick) as well as tonight’s Royal Rumble. I know the general consensus on the Internet is to bash TNA’s creative so I try to be as positive as I can but, damn, it’s so hard sometimes with this bunch. Starnes still backpedling, blames Dana and injury for shabby showing at UFC 83
The SAV SCI MMA blog — Kalib Starnes was in full spin mode in an interview with The Fight Network . Here’s the skinny–he claims that he asked for his release from the UFC last week and that Dana White’s announcement that he’d been dropped due to his pitiful performance against Nate Quarry isn’t true. He also claimed that his refusal to engage was due to an injury to his thigh caused by a Quarry kick early in the fight. While not being specific as to the exact nature of the injury he said his thigh was “destroyed”. He also mentions a broken foot from a kick he threw. He goes on to bash Dana for questioning his heart, and suggests he’s ...

This is a theme that seems to be playing out a lot in the MMA world and beyond nowadays. We pointed out how ProElite bought a bunch of profitable MMA promotions and managed to run most of them into insolvency. JarryPark.com - How's Taste My Website? — A solid night of fights last night. I spewed out all my thoughts at VERSUS.com, but here’s a taste: “* TYSON GRIFFIN (13-2) DEF. RAFAEL DOS ANJOS (11-4) VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) I have mixed emotions about this fight. On the hand, I must applaud Tyson Griffin for escaping an awkward leg compression by dos Anjos in the first round. Honestly, I didn’t think he would escape that hold. Finally … ‘The Franchise’ returns to FNR
JarryPark.com - How's Taste My Website? — Fight Network Radio will always be No.1 in my books. After all, they were the first combat sports media outlet to welcome me with open arms back in November 2007 back when I was a lowly Canuck doing audio interviews in my momma’s basement. (Kidding. Maybe.) Anyway, I was back on FN Radio this afternoon talking a little DREAM.9 action with host Mauro Ranallo. Listen below. Also, check out the latest MMA Fanhouse podcast HERE. Missed Opportunity: Should the UFC Have Gone After Gegard Mousasi?
Keyboard Kimura — You probably recognize the man on the right. At the very least, you've heard of him. He goes by the name of Fedor. During the week since the fall of Affliction, Dana White and the UFC spent hours on end trying to negotiate a deal that would bring the Russian heavyweight into the fold and set up a pay-per-view bonanza against Brock Lesnar. But maybe some of that time should have been spent talking to the guy on the left. His name is Gegard Mousasi. Although focusing on Fedor was obviously the right move and one the UFC had to make, failure to land the biggest fish ...

Nevada Passes MMA Instant Replay Rule But Questions Remain
Ropes, Ring and Cage — [image] It was only a matter of time before the words 'instant replay' and MMA became intertwined and the Nevada State Athletic Commission fused them together Wednesday, giving referees the opportunity to review a controversial stoppage and potentially change the outcome. Legalization of MMA in Maine: A Frustrating Education Lies Ahead
Ropes, Ring and Cage — As a former 21-year resident of Maine (the U.S. state most people assume is part of Canada), I was happy to see the passing of a bill Tuesday that creates the Mixed Martial Arts Authority of Maine, a legislative body that will oversee regulation of the sport - making the Pine Tree State the 40th state to do so. But in reading some of the news coverage about the bill, I also felt both frustrated and befuddled at the amazing lack of knowledge about MMA and the lengths that supporters like myself still have to go in explaining what the sport is and dispelling the myths that still exist. Two quotes that really stuck ...

Lesnar/Carwin Postponement Spotlights Major Problem For UFC: Too Many Events
Ropes, Ring and Cage — With Monday's surprise announcement that UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar's match with Shane Carwin was postponed due to an undisclosed illness, a major flaw in the UFC's business model was once again exposed. While still hot, the UFC is putting on way too many events, thinning out the talent levels on the shows, giving fans weak PPV main events and putting them in a terrible spot when having to adjust to situations like the Lesnar one. Look, I love mixed martial arts as much as anyone but we're at the saturation point. There is more original and re-aired UFC programming than ever before, both on Spike and PPV. ...

MMA Newsday: Fedor/Rogers ratings, UFC 108 headliners, Fedor's next opponent, Coolio!
Ropes, Ring and Cage — The ratings are in and CBS' airing of Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers hit the right chords with the 18-34 male demographic and pulled in some decent numbers overall. The entire broadcast averaged 4.04 million viewers, winning the time slot in adults 18-34 and males 18-34. The main event itself peaked at 5.46 million. What was interesting was the audience composition number: 31% adults 18-34 with a median age of 41.4 for the entire show. That just seems old to me, but I'm not sure how representative the audience composition numbers are. Regardless, I'd like to see the shows start at 8 pm and get a committed three-hour ...

MMA Newsday: Strikeforce pays up, more free UFC on Spike, Strikeforce signings
Ropes, Ring and Cage — In what I think was an awesome gesture by the good folks at Strikeforce, the organization paid both Mark Miller and Deray Davis both their 'show' fee and potential win bonuses from getting bumped from last Saturday's Fedor/Rogers show in Chicago, Il. Both local welterweights, the two were supposed to fight on the untelevised portion of the show but got bumped and were expected to fight after the main event concluded. However for some reason, that didn't happen and the two didn't get the chance to fight. After the group unsuccessfully tried to make the fight for later this month in Chicago, they gave both guys paydays ...

WEC 44 Results: Jose Aldo Stuns Mike Brown To Win Featherweight Championship
Ropes, Ring and Cage — Jose Aldo made it look easy in dispatching of WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown at WEC 44 Wednesday night, winning the title via 2nd round TKO after getting Brown's back and unloading punches until the referee stopped the fight. Simply put, Aldo was dominant and didn't let the champion get comfortable in the first round, aggressively striking and throwing his signature flying knee. There was no controversy in the stop as Brown looked overmatched. Jose Aldo has officially arrived and I am looking forward to his first defense of the gold which I assume to be against Urijah Faber in the spring. ...

UFC 106: The Five Bullet Point Preview
Ropes, Ring and Cage — Good lord, there's a lot of mixed martial arts going on right now. The fourth and arguably biggest show of the week is set for Las Vegas Saturday night with UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II, headlined by a main event that features the return of a former champion most thought would never come back against a former champion that needs a big win in the worst way possible. Originally scheduled to be headlined by Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, there could be worse main events for UFC 106 than Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin II and as both men are being introduced, suddenly no one will care about what could have been and will ...

The bar we go to for all UFC ppvs (the awesome MMA-friendly Murphy's Taproom) was packed last night for UFC 106 and into almost every fight of the night with the except of Paulo Thiago vs. Jacob Volkmann. The Strange Saturdays Of Junie Browning and Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver
Ropes, Ring and Cage — There must have been something in the air Saturday as two The Ultimate Fighter alums had quite the controversial night despite being hundreds of miles apart with one not even in competition. Let's begin with Junie Browning who was featured in the main event for MMA Big Show at the Belterra Casino in Indiana, He easily handled an inexperienced Scott Cornwell (1-1) by submitting him with relative ease via first round triangle at 3:13.
