The Oklahoma City Thunder, who are off to a league worst 1-12 record, fired head coach P.J. Carlesimo last night following their loss to the New Orleans Hornets 105-80. The loss was the Thunder’s 10th straight loss. Assistant Scott Brooks has been promoted to head coach after the firing. As reported by ESPN: Brooks was told of his promotion after the flight took off. Carlesimo did not make the trip. The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced a marketing alliance with the Champions Hockey League (CHL), the newly formed European club championship under the authority of the International Ice Hockey Federation. The CHL began play on October 8, 2008 in 12 European markets. Based on early success, the pan-European league is already scheduled to expand to 22 markets for next season. Following the NHL's participation in September's Victoria Cup, a pre-season tournament in Bern, Switzerland which featured the New York Rangers and two CHL clubs, the two leagues began discussing further cooperation on various marketing initiatives which has led to the new alliance. The deal excludes Canada, the U.S. and Mexico As reported by the SportsBusiness Journal: Financial terms of the five-year deal were not disclosed but the partnership will begin during the NBA’s All-Star Week in Phoenix, where the Globetrotters are slated to participate in all-star-related activities.
