Almost a Victory for Bloggers in Dallas Links9
The NBA has directed the Dallas Mavericks to re-open their locker room to full-time bloggers with credentials. That's hot news for Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News, and bit of a eureka for sports bloggers everywhere. A league has piped up for you. I think that's a nice bit of leadership on the part of the NBA, for which I am grateful. However, it's not all good news. There's one ... [link]

An Open Letter To NBA Bloggers On Mark Cuban's New Policy
Published 3/28/2008 by Hardwood Paroxysm at Hardwood Paroxysm
Dear Blogosphere, So I woke up this morning and expected it to be a usual day. I'll write some stuff on the Hornets, talk about how the Mavericks need more production from their bench, play with the dog, have the usual Friday night Sushi with the wife, and watch whatever indie-film the Paroxywife has added to the Netflix Cue. And then Mark Cuban decided to get all wacky/progressive again. Here's the thing. The article I posted about the Cuban policy wasn't really against Cuban. When Cuban went on to explain himself, I started to understand it a ...

... me how far off the deep end that Mark Cuban has gone. Cuban took an interesting approach when dealing with Bloggers, banning them entirely from the Mavericks locker room due to space issues. This was obviously a crazy decision based on Cuban usually being on the cutting edge of Pop Culture, but he decided to take a stand. Well the ban has been lifted (because the NBA ordered him to lift it), and you're invited to come.....all of you. From the Dallas Morning News via Truehoop.... Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who contended the team's locker room was ...

Dallas Doesn't Want to do This

... one game. They are officially in danger of missing the playoffs, which would make them the first team since the 1998-99 Chicago Bulls to miss the playoffs after leading the league in wins the season previous. The catch is that those Bulls were completely gutted, and the Mavericks are essentially the same team minus Devin Harris , plus Jason Kidd . Since making their only significant move, Dallas is now 0-9 against teams with winning records. Tim MacMahon (now with locker room access !) might not be worried, thinking they'll win 50 without beating a playoff ...

... was overruled, Cuban's clearly thumbing his nose by not establishing any ground rules-- possibly hoping the policy will blow up. Call us cynical, but it will. Access doesn't necessarily grant consequences, after all. It won't go bad right away. But eventually, someone--with nothing to lose--will think he's making a name for himself by asking embarassing, inappropriate questions. Maybe he'll take and post pictures of players' body parts. Something bad. It probably won't be any blogger we've heard of, either, but someone who set up a blogspot address for the stunt appeal. And ...

An Open Letter to NBA Bloggers on Mark Cuban's New Policy

Cuban decided if he was going to get so much grief for a restrictive policy, he'd reverse it. On the surface, this seems like some type of petulant, "Fine! If you want it this way, you can have it!" move. But, despite his rather mixed messages on blogs in general, I think this might be something he actually cares about.
