Altidore must agree to personal contract terms and undergo a physical with Villarreal before the deal can be completed. Ives Galarcep, Michael Lewis, and Stephen Goff are reporting that MLS has sold Red Bulls Striker Jozy Altidore to Villareal, runners-up in the Spanish League this season, for $8MM. Altidore will report after passing a physical and agreeing to terms with the European club. For the Red Bulls, who were anemic in a 1-0 loss to Houston on Saturday, the departure couldn't have come at a worse time. The club has scored only twice in its last three outings. ... He’s talented, but inexperienced. Jozy has played barely a full season in MLS, not exactly top level competition. He’s only had a cup of coffee with the senior national team. The Yellow Submarine will likely loan him to a Primera Liga bottom dweller like Recreativo Huelva, and expect him to make his own way. If he doesn’t produce immediately, he may be cast aside before given a chance to develop. The time and teaching of system-based countries like Holland or Germany may be far more conducive to his long-term development as a player. ...
