Americans Abroad: Beasley makes Champions League history

DaMarcus Beasley became the first American player to play for two different clubs in the UEFA Champion League group stage when he came on in the second half of Glasgow Rangers' 2-1 victory over German champion VfB Stuttgart before almost 50,000 fans Wednesday night at Ibrox.

Beasley was one of four starters from last Saturday's 4-2 loss to Hearts -- Rangers' first of the Scottish Premier League season -- to find himself on the bench at the start of the Group E match against Stuttgart.

He came on in the 67th minute for Charlie Adam shortly after Adam's well-taken equalizer. Rangers won the game in the 71st minute on French Guyanan Jean-Claude Darcheville's penalty kick after right back Alan Hutton was taken down in the box.

Beasley previously played for PSV Eindhoven in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 Champions League campaigns.
