 An Interview with Buzz Bissinger
Award-winning author Buzz Bissinger voiced his displeasure about blogs on last week’s Bob Costas HBO special. In a contrite and fairly candid interview with us, he sums up his television performance thusly: “I am a man of passion, and my passion got the better of me.” Our take on the kerfuffle can be found here and here . Don't take yourself so seriously.     Good Lord--"I am a man of passion."     Who talks like that?     Anyhow, you should be worried about us - the people are choosing, and they are more and more choosing content from those of us with websites that are passionate as well.

When I saw this interview I immediately was shocked by the outright display of assholishness that he put on. At least with this interview he does something that no one else does these days - he ate his hat and apologized.

Now, do I agree with his opinions that blogs are worthless? Hell no, I write one myself! But I do think it was interesting that he took the opportunity to say his piece without all the spitting and jabbering about "the future of sportswriting."

This interview really comes across as a PR front to limit the downside of this.  He comes across as disingenuous, to say the least.

... Since we took the time to criticize Buzz Bissinger for his comments about sports blogs last week, I want to take time now to give him some credit for his interview with the Big Lead today, in which he responds to the controversy, apologizes, and expresses embarrassment for his remarks. I’m not going to say that it “took a lot of courage” (it will, I assure you, be said), but for Bissinger to work out his reaction on a popular sports blog at least demonstrates a desire to talk to the right audience, and a basic willingness to see blogs as a potentially complex ...
