deltapi1049 When I saw this interview I immediately was shocked by the outright display of assholishness that he put on. At least with this interview he does something that no one else does these days - he ate his hat and apologized.
Now, do I agree with his opinions that blogs are worthless? Hell no, I write one myself! But I do think it was interesting that he took the opportunity to say his piece without all the spitting and jabbering about "the future of sportswriting."

Redsauce This interview really comes across as a PR front to limit the downside of this. He comes across as disingenuous, to say the least. -

Thoughts on Buzz Bissinger’s Apology
Published 5/5/2008 by Brian at The Run of Play
... Since we took the time to criticize Buzz Bissinger for his comments about sports blogs last week, I want to take time now to give him some credit for his interview with the Big Lead today, in which he responds to the controversy, apologizes, and expresses embarrassment for his remarks. I’m not going to say that it “took a lot of courage” (it will, I assure you, be said), but for Bissinger to work out his reaction on a popular sports blog at least demonstrates a desire to talk to the right audience, and a basic willingness to see blogs as a potentially complex ...

"I am a man of passion and my passion truly got the better of me. I should have considerably toned it down, in particular in terms of my treatment of Will Leitch. Without going into details, I have taken steps to remedy that."

Bissinger Walks Back From the Ledge
Published 5/6/2008 by Craig Calcaterra at ShysterBall
The Big Lead has landed an interview with Bissinger, and Buzz is contrite: The initial reaction was quite positive, more than quite positive from those I immediately spoke to–fellow panelists and members of HBO with the exception of Costas (Bob was friendly but muted in his response to my performance. He is one of the most thoughtful people I know and I think he was mulling that I had gone way too far.) What I began to realize by the next afternoon is this: What the fellow panelists thought (at least the ones I spoke with) were not remotely a representative group. ...
Talking Points: Eric Berry woo edition

... Quickly this morning: Berry Woo! Lots of buzz around Rocky Top this morning about the fact that Eric Berry is on the cover of Athlon Sports. Okay, so maybe they have 4,684 different covers -- if they could they'd probably put your picture on the cover just to ensure that you'd buy one -- but the thing I find most notable is how Berry's holding the ball. See? He's passing. Hug, hug, kiss, kiss. Gerald Williams, after a 27-year journey, is finally on his way to Knoxville to become a Tennessee Vol. ...

The Big Lead: An Interview with Buzz Bissinger It takes a really big horsefucker to admit when he’s almost wrong… Q: The internet is agog over the HBO special. When you walked off the stage, did you have any idea of how big of a deal this would become? Did your cell phone blow up, and your inbox get clogged? And what was the overall reaction from friends and colleagues you spoke with? And what’s your reaction to the masses who think that you and Costas - longtime friends - were in cahoots against Will Leitch? The initial reaction was quite positive, more than quite positive ...

On Buzz Bissinger
When a man so directly declares himself opposed to others based, not on the body of their work but the medium in which they ply their trade, that person is, ipso facto, a jackass. To give you a sense of how I think the writing about sports should be practiced, I point my klieg light at Jon Weisman, and recall James Joyce's quote on his own aims, namely, "to forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated consciousness of my race". While that amounts to a grand overstatement, and what we do here on the ...

I've been contemplating doing this for awhile and it seems that the time is right. With the recent uproar that was created when noted journalist and author Buzz Bissinger attacked Deadspin.com creator (and author in his own right) Will Leitch on Bob Costas' HBO show, I decided that it was time for me to step out from the shadows of anonymity. After all, one of the big issues that the "established media" has with bloggers is that they hide behind usernames of their choice and therefore, don't have the level of accountability that journalists, columnists and ...
