    Good stuff, Josh. One thing about Hoffman is that since his 2002 shoulder surgery, he hasn't had as much success against lefties. He used to consistently handle them better than right-handers, but no longer. I've actually got a little bit about this up at Ducksnorts if you're interested.

    Excellent write-up there Geoff.  I couldn't agree more with the comment about Hoffman's margin for error being small and the issues with lefties are definitely a real issue.  I wish I had some pre-2002 data to see what he was doing differently.  Maybe he change-up had more movement away from lefties?  Pure spectulation on my part there.

    I think if the Brewers understand what they are getting and if Macha uses him against the tough right handed hitters and medicore left handed hitters there is a decent change of success.  If they just hand him the ball in the 9th inning no matter what that chance goes down significantly.
