Any deals for big bats Holliday, Teixeira will go down to wire - Jon Heyman - SI.com
If Matt Holliday or Mark Teixeira are traded, the deals probably won't go down until hours, minutes or even seconds before the 4 p.m. July 31 trade deadline. The Rockies have been looking around for potential deals for Holliday, while the Braves are putting out signals they are going to make a playoff push and thus hold onto Teixeira. Both players appear to be in a similar spot. They could be ... [link]

Sherman & Heyman: Cashman To M’s?
Published 7/22/2008 by Steve Lombardi at WasWatching.com
Joel Sherman, on July 14th: Another rumor within the game that simply will not perish is that if Gillick becomes president in Seattle that Brian Cashman will follow out there to be the Mariner GM. Cashman is an open admirer of Gillick, having cited Gillick as a standard others should follow. Cashman, whose contract runs out after the season, continues to say he will not discuss future opportunities until the Yankee campaign ends. Jon Heyman, one week later, today: There’s been a little more buzz lately ...

The Rockies and Braves will wait until right before the July 31st deadline to decide whether to trade Matt Holliday and Mark Teixeira.  The Rox have been more active calling around about Holliday, though.  Heyman notes that Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd has spoken to the Mets, Angels, Phillies, and other teams about him.  The Rockies are seven games out, while the Braves are six back. The Yankees haven't even considered signing Barry Bonds, despite the ...

MLB Trade Deadline Rumors: Which Names Are Left With Over A Week Remaining?
Published 7/22/2008 at FanIQ Blog
... Matt Holliday The 28-year-old face of the Rockies organization would be a tough blow to Colorado fans if he were be moved shortly after signing an extension last winter. But these are the Rockies, and they seem poised to move their talent at all times. My guess is the Rockies realize he's an attractive option, and are using their past history of dealing, to see if there's a playoff contender so desperate at the deadline, they offer a group of players GM Dan O'Dowd simply can't reject. I'll put the chances around 10% with the Angels as the ...

With Nady Dealt, Who Should Mets Pursue At Trading Deadline?
Published 7/26/2008 at Mets Merized Online - A Mets Blog For Real Mets Fans!
... Casey Blake: I think that this is most likely the player Omar Minaya will reel in at the deadline. His name has already been connected to the Mets by Jon Heyman (Link), and his solid production during the 08 season may portend a strong return for Cleveland. There are some flaws with the idea of bringing in Blake; he's never played left field (238 career games in right field), and he'll turn 35 this year. However, he's got an OPS of .828 this year with modest pop (11 home runs), and a .313 average against lefties this season. I don't think any Mets fans ...
