HERALD APOLOGIZES FOR SUPER BOWL XXXVI STORY
ProFootballTalk.com —
In a stunning but not surprising move, the Boston Herald has apologized to the New England Patriots for the February 2 report that the Patriots videotaped the walk-through practice of the St. Louis Rams prior to Super Bowl XXXVI.“While the Boston Herald based its Feb. 2, 2008, report on sources that it believed to be credible,” the newspaper writes, ”we now know that this report was false, and that no tape of the walkthrough ever existed.“Prior to the publication of its Feb. 2, 2008, article, the Boston Herald neither possessed nor viewed a tape of the Rams’ walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI, nor did we speak to anyone who had. We should not have published the allegation in the ...

Herald Apologizes; Brady Bashes ESPN and Jets; Everyone Else Bashes the Herald’s John Tomase
Scott's Shots —
... The Boston Herald has “apologized” for writer John Tomase’s Super Bowl Eve bombshell that a tape of a 2002 St. Louis Rams pre-Super Bowl walkthrough existed. Without naming Tomase directly, the paper, at its website (and surely in the Wednesday print edition), says under the heading, “Sorry, Pats” and alongside a picture of the raised Lombardi Trophy: ...
Boston Herald Apologizes to Patriots; Fans not Impressed
Talking NFL —
... Meanwhile, with the equivalent of a five-egg western omelette on their face, the Boston Herald did the only thing they could courageously came forward and “owned up” to their butcher job on Spygate (in the faint hopes that Mr. Kraft doesn’t sue them into extinction). My initial thought was to post part of the apology here, but after reading through some of the comments about the article, publishing some of them instead looks like much more fun! ...
Boston Herald Finally Apologizes to Pats
Larry Brown Sports —
... for being full of horseish and said they should apologize. Well, only a matter of a few days later and they have come through with their apologies. And as much as I’d like to believe in the ubiquitous powers of LBS, I do have to admit that ESPN was putting the pressure on the Herald to apologize. So no doubt those guys are dancing over the Herald’s grave right now, doing backflips on our boy Tomase who wrote the story. Since some ESPN members probably are celebrating, I just want to make sure it works both ways and that ESPN ...

Boston Herald apologises to Pats
New England Patriots —
The Boston Herald did something I did not expect: they apologised for running the story Feb. 2, the day before the Super Bowl, about the Patriots supposedly taping the Rams walk through practice in 2002. I, for one, never anticipate any media outlet to ever apologise for anything, even though reporting allegations that never become verified as truth seems to be the norm nowadays in America. Kudos to the Herald for issuing an apology. Maybe they will verify before reporting in the future. The apology reads as follows:
“On Feb. 2, 2008, the Boston Herald reported that a member of the New England Patriots’ ...

The Boston Herald Finally Apologizes
AwfulAnnouncing —
Finally, after a week of nothing the Boston Herald has come out and apologized for the whole walkthrough mess, and it's a doozy. Here it is in it's entirety.... On Feb. 2, 2008, the Boston Herald reported that a member of the New England Patriots video staff taped the St. Louis Rams’ walkthrough on the day before Super Bowl XXXVI. While the Boston Herald based its Feb. 2, 2008, report on sources that it believed to be credible, we now know that this report was false, and that no tape of the walkthrough ever existed. We can forget about that Rams walkthrough tape, too
Shutdown Corner —
As
seemingly the whole football world was waiting for them to do, the
Boston Herald has officially apologized for reporting that a tape of the Rams
walkthrough prior to Super Bowl XXXVI ever existed. They even made a
handsome little "Sorry,
Pats" graphic to go along with it. It's only missing a text frowny face
and a sad kitten. =(
The Herald even took it one step further and said they know that the report they
got was false, "and that no tape of the walkthrough ever existed." As
far as apologies go, it's pretty thorough.
Prior to the publication of its Feb. 2, 2008, article, the Boston Herald neither possessed nor ...
Kraft feels vindicated by Herald apology
ESPN.com - NFL Nation Blog —
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando Patriots owner Robert Kraft says he feels vindicated by the Boston Herald's apology for its botched story about the Super Bowl XXXVI walk-through. "We do," Kraft told his CNBC interviewer. "I felt very good seeing this paper because we've worked very hard over the last decade and a half to establish a strong bond with our fans, where they could trust and believe in the integrity of the team. This story coming out the day before the Super Bowl, the biggest game in our history, going for a perfect season, was very damaging and put a cloud over us for the last three and a half months. I'm glad it's ...

Tomase Dissected as We Await Friday’s “Bond of Trust” Explanation
Scott's Shots —
... said on Wednesday, “One of my staffers did the research and found that Marshall Faulk had only returned one kick in his entire career.” Faulk would go one to return another regular season kick in 2004 for zero yards. It’s not clear whether Faulk ever had any other playoff kick/punt returns, but I bet a few hours of research by Specter’s staffer could figure it out. Tax money well spent, right Arl?

Patriots lawsuit appears unlikely
ESPN.com - NFL Nation Blog —
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando The Patriots are no longer considering a lawsuit against the Boston Herald now that the newspaper has apologized for its erroneous Spygate story, the Boston Globe notes. Herald editor Kevin R. Convey took responsibility for the mistake, while reporter John Tomase plans to elaborate on what went wrong Friday. The thought of attorneys calling as witnesses Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick, Ernie Adams and others in the Patriots organization might appeal from a selling-papers standpoint. But the Herald, which not long ago lost a prominent libel case, appears to be taking steps to avoid liability. Tomase's ...
Asshole Of The Week: The Boston Herald
Foul Balls —
[image] Welcome to Asshole Of The Week , where every Friday your trusty Foul Balls editor picks out the one person from the previous seven days who makes him think, "Man, what an asshole." It could be anybody from an athlete, an owner, someone in the media, or just anybody who happens to catch my ire. Another first in the short history of Asshole Of The Week here on Foul Balls: instead of naming a person as the Asshole Of The Week, I'm naming an entire newspaper. Or at least their sports department. Though, if this week's honor were to be bestowed upon one individual, that individual would be John Tomase. Who the hell is John Tomase, and why should you care? Well, Christ, give ...
Fenway Park Getting Icy
RealClearSports - Blog —
If you can believe the report in the Boston Herald (and when have they ever been wrong about something sports related?), Fenway Park will be the site of the 2010 NHL Winter Classic, so says Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa in the "Inside Track."
Our spies on Lansdowne Street say the League has given its blessing to a 2010 New Year’s Day game in the Hub of Hockey, choosing Boston over New York and Philadelphia.
League reps had visited all three cities and, in Boston, looked at both Fenway and Gillette Stadium. However, scheduling around any Patriots [team stats] post-season play was a tricky proposition, we’re told, and ultimately Fenway ...
Jun 21, Patriots Belichick Spygate News
SEC Sports Fan Blog —
Looking for current Patriots Belichick Spygate News? If so, look no further, we have the latest stories here. This story is like peeling back the layers of an onion. It's impossible to get to the bottom of it as it's just one layer after another, each making you tear up a bit more. The very latest (as of June 6, 2008) is that (after talking to Matt Walsh) the NFL (Goodell) has essentially declared Spygate to be over. However, Senator Specter has again called for the NFL to conduct a real investigation. Specter says: My strong preference is for the NFL to activate a Mitchell-type investigation.... If the NFL continues to leave a vacuum, Congress may be tempted to fill it.... The ...
