MetsBlog.com —
... Type B free agents, meaning each player could net the Mets a compensatory draft pick if they sign elsewhere… however, there is a very good chance both players accept it, forcing the Mets to keep them for 2010… what’s worse, i have to think delgado could earn around $10 million were he to accept, and, if the Mets do want him back, it would be for far less, no doubt…

I completely agree with that analysis, though I do think that Ted Lilly's off-season shoulder surgery complicates this decision immensely. Frankly, I'd rather drop $8 million on Rich Harden than on a lot of the other names we've heard tossed around.

Arbitration: who's gettin' tendered and who isn't?
Circling The Bases —
... A non-tender means that a guy can walk without draft pick compensation. In the past there wasn't a lot of risk to offering guys arbitration because most of them wanted to test the market. It's a lot tougher out there for a free agent these days, however, so a lot of dudes may very well accept a team's offer, putting the team on the hook for millions to a guy they'd just as soon see walk away. In other words, it's the only place in baseball where gambling is still allowed. Today Tim Dierkes at MLB Trade Rumors predicts , player by player, who he thinks will and wont get arb ...
The Arbitration Decision
Bats —
The first intriguing deadline of the baseball off-season is nearly upon us. By midnight Tuesday, teams must decide whether to offer arbitration to their Type A or B free agents . Unfamiliar with the system? Here’s a quick primer: If Type A or B free agents are offered arbitration and sign elsewhere, their former team will receive compensatory draft picks. By signing a Type A free agent — top players like John Lackey, Jason Bay and Matt Holliday — a team would give a high draft pick to the player’s former team, which in turn would also receive a supplemental-round pick from Major League Baseball. The Mets, for instance, did not have a first-round pick in 2009 because ...
At stake in today’s arbitration decision
Angels blog —
... free agents. That means decisions on John Lackey, Chone Figgins, Vladimir Guerrero and Darren Oliver. Why wouldn’t the team offer arbitration? Because players rarely get a significant paycut in arbitration, so the team is likely to get stuck paying something close to the player’s current salary. John Lackey and Chone Figgins are certain to be offered arbitration, because there is no danger and because the Angels will be rewarded with two draft picks. Vladimir Guerrero probably won’t, according to MLB Trade Rumors , because there is a danger (he was paid $15 million) and little ...
