Starlin Castro and Blake Parker are Rising Stars
Bleacher Nation | Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Commentary — The Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars game was played yesterday - think of it as an All Star game, with the players selected out of a crop of very good prospects. So if you’re playing in this game, you’re probably a stud. Or, you’re an older guy who is maybe or maybe not still a prospect, but because of your age, you’re tearing up the AFL. But the Cubs’ guys are prospects. So get off me. The Chicago Cubs had two prospects playing in the Rising Stars game. Starlin Castro - easily the most rapidly rising prospect in the Cubs’ system, and likely all of baseball - played shortstop and batted third for the AFL East squad. ...

Davis, Dunn in AFL Rising Star Classic
Mike Silva's New York Baseball Digest — This will probably get lost post World Series, but local prospects Ike Davis and Michael Dunn were in the AFL Rising Star Game last night. Davis came off the bench and was 1-2, while Dunn pitched a scoreless inning striking out two and was credited with the win. You can check out the entire boxscore here as well as the game story. Davis is hitting .328 in the AFL (3 homers, 10 RBI) with a .941 OPS Dunn has struggled a bit with his control (6 walks in 7 innings), but has struck out 13 and held opponents to a .207 batting average. Both of these kids will be interesting stories this spring as they ...

Danny Moskos Bombed in AFL Rising Stars Game
Bucs Dugout — First, the good news from last night's AFL Rising Stars game: Chase D'Arnaud and Jose Tabata both went 2-for-3. Neither of Tabata's hits left the infield, and the first of D'Arnaud's was a shallow fly that no one could get to, but Tabata looked good on the basepaths, and D'Arnaud's last hit was stung. Daniel Moskos, though... the poor guy has nothing. The announcers said that the stadium gun had him as high as 92, but they also said that Tanner Scheppers hit 99 at least once. Scheppers looked great, mostly throwing fastball after fastball, but I'm ...

Morning Prowl: Arbitration Dilemmas, Free Agent Predictions, and Gibby's Managerial Aspirations
Bless You Boys — ... went 0-for-3, and Andrew Oliver allowed three baserunners in one inning of work, but didn't give up a run.  (Here's the boxscore.) ...

Marlins in the Rising Stars Game
FishStripes — ... the two players the Marlins sent to the game, only one made an appearance. If you will recall, Bryan Peterson and Matt Dominguez were the Marlins representatives.  Peterson got into the game in the fifth as a center field defensive replacement.  He did go 1 for 2 at the plate, hitting a single and stole a base.  Not a bad showing.  Unfortunately for Dominguez he didn't get to see time in the game. Here is the box score: AFL East 7, AFL West 8

News and Notes
Raise the Jolly Roger — This is kind of weird…according to Rob Biertempfel’s Twitter, the Pirates and Phillies will wrap up Spring Training with games on April 2 and 3. In Philly. Opening up the season at home is enough of a risk to freeze, but I guess that will serve as a bit of a transition from the spring atmosphere to the real season. Who knows? Out in the Arizona Fall League, Donnie Veal is still dealing. He’s 3-0 with an 0.54 ERA and 0.72 WHIP. No, it’s not particularly meaningful–but it is encouraging. Staying out in Arizona, the AFL’s Rising Stars game took place on Saturday. Jose Tabata and Chase D’arnaud both went ...
