Judging by the comments from general manager A.J. Smith, it doesn’t seem like a lock that Merriman is a part of the Chargers’ future plans. I’d be stunned if he received a long-term contract from them anytime soon.

Would the Chiefs Move NT Dorsey?
Chiefs GabNFL Network reports that the Chiefs may be open to dealing nose tackle Glenn Dorsey: I’m told by numerous league sources that the coaching staff in Kansas City isn’t high on NT Glenn Dorsey, a former first-round draft pick. There’s always a demand for nose tackles in this league, and the salary-cap ramifications wouldn’t be a deterrent in dealing for Dorsey. Another Chief to keep an eye on is LB Derrick Johnson.
