The Week In Quotes: October 19-25 by Alex Carnevale
Baseball Prospectus —
October 26, 2009 The Week In Quotes October 19-25 by Alex Carnevale THAT JORGE POSADA FOR EXAMPLE IS SOMETHING OF A CUT-UP "They're probably the loosest, most enthusiastic clowns before games and workouts. Everybody is on each other, and everybody gets along. From day one this team just grew in this clubhouse. It started with [Girardi] and what he was teaching with teamwork. They say chemistry wins, and it's true. When you're on the other side, you think, 'They're all business and they don't have fun.' But this is the best group of guys I ever played with.'' Yankees ...

One source told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that Mills would get ...

Indians: Astros made offer to Indians' new manager, Manny Acta
Ohio Sports Report —
“Manny The Cleveland Indians have named the fella that managed to "lead" the Washington Nationals to a 158-252 record, Manny Acta, its new manager, but it wasn't before the Houston Astros tried to do the same thing . The word in Houston is that GM Ed Wade offered a two-year deal plus a one-year option to Acta, according to MLB. Cleveland apparently offered a three-year deal with a one-year option. Negotiations were still going on as late as Saturday with the 40-year-old Acta meeting with Wade and the head of baseball operations for the Astros, Tal Smith, at Minute Maid Park. "We met, and we made an offer, and we knew that he was scheduled to have another ...

The Astros' offseason gets off to a pathetic start
Circling The Bases —
[image] Manny Acta was drafted by the Houston Astros when he was 17 years old, spent six years toiling in their system, then spent nearly a decade coaching and managing in their system as well. Mere weeks ago, he called the possibility of managing the Astros " too good to be true ...
Cedric Benson Wins The Weekend [Weekend Winner]
Deadspin —
In sports, everybody is a winner-some people just win better than others. Like Cedric Benson, who won the weekend by making the Chicago Bears look foolish. Granted, he's not the first. Benson made some waves last week when he accused his former team of trying to blackball him around the league. (Fortunately, when your running back has just 10 touchdowns in three years it doesn't take much to convince people not to hire him.) Plenty of players have tried to amp themselves up for a big "revenge game" by talking a little smack—and then promptly gone out and laid a big egg on the field/court/rink, proving that the organization that cut/traded/demoted them was right all ...
Indians hire Manny Acta as Manager
MLB Notebook - Major League Baseball New, Notes, and Analysis —
According to Jon Heyman , the Cleveland Indians will introduce Manny Acta as their new manager. Acta was also involved with the interview process in Houston, and the Astros have acknowledged that they offered him the job as Astros' manager. I always stood by Acta when he was with the Nationals, and don't believe he should have been fired during this past season. The Indians are going to be in a rebuilding situation for the next couple of years, so it will be interesting how he handles the team compared to what he did with the Nationals. Acta started his career as a player in the Houston Astros organization, playing six seasons in the minor leagues, never reaching The Show. He then started ...
