And, for a far more detailed and passionate examination into the reaction of those damned to haunt the plains I offer the following links to relevant comment threads on the hire.

Everybody Hates Gene Chizik
FanHouse —
by Brian Cook Filed under: Auburn, Iowa StateRight: Track 'Em Tigers reacts to the Chizik hire. It's been clear that the people running Auburn's athletic department were kind of petulant little babies for a while now -- ever since the Petrino planegate fiasco -- but the extent was unknown until Tommy Tubberville was fired or forced out or resigned or whatever and Auburn didn't immediately hire Brian Kelly or Paul Johnson. Submitted as a rule: if you're Auburn and you're going to can a guy who's won six of seven ...
Iowa State Players React to L'Affair Chizik Not Unlike Auburn Fans
The Sporting Blog —
Once Auburn named Mean Gene Chizik head coach, Tigers fans went ballistic. Via Sports By Brooks, we learn that two Chizik recruits at Iowa State responded in a similar fashion. ... Over at Track ‘em Tigers, the reaction was enough to induce vomiting (you simply have to read through some of the comments), and I am pretty certain that a few of the commenters have since committed suicide. In particular, the guy who wrote this letter:
Mr. Jacobs
I have no words to express how I feel about the hiring of Chizik as the head football coach at Auburn University. How can anyone be this ...
2009 College Football Preview: The SEC
Major League Jerk —
... Auburn is going through a rough period. Gone is capable coach Tommy Tuberville and his replacement, Gene Chizik, was greeted with fanfare like this from around the SEC. Gotta love that, right? Well, Chizik was a successful DC at both Auburn and Texas, and while his head coaching stint was just fucking terrible, there are a lot of good defenders in Auburn. The biggest problems? Nick Saban, Nick Saban and the fact that the offense will be even MORE brutal to watch than last year’s. If it wasn’t for the fact that this is Auburn, they’d be in ...
