Ajack & Montero make the Top 50 Prospects in MLB
Zell's Pinstripe Blog — Top 50 Prospects in MLB   Austin Jackson made the list and he is ranked 27th overall. Jesus Montero was ranked 40th on the list. These two guys are pretty much the top 2 prospects in the farm system, so I doubt any other Yankees will make the list ahead of them. Austin Jackson Scouting Report: Scouting report: He is an athletic outfielder, who used to be basketball standout, and is still refining game. He’s working on a more consistent approach at the plate, but needs to cut down on strikeouts a bit. There’s potential to have decent power at some point down the line. He has speed with some ability to steal a few bases and is good defensively in ...

Yankees will be an old team in 2009
ESPN Feed: neyer rob — ... 's going to spend a lot of intellectual energy figuring out how to keep everybody fresh. But old talent is still talent. The Yankees do have a chance -- not that they're likely to take it -- to get younger in 2010. Jeter's signed through 2010, Posada through 2011 , and of course A-Rod's signed forever. But Damon and Matsui are both free agents after 2009, and whoever plays center field in 2009 -- Cameron, Cabrera, or someone else -- is likely to be replaced by young Austin Jackson in 2010. The Yankees will never be a young team. They just don't have the patience for it. ...

Which prospect to 'watch'?
Pinstripe Alley — ... Austin Jackson is a solid, all-around centerfielder. He doesn't have one standout skill, but doesn't have any major weaknesses either. He'll start the year in Triple-A Scranton with an outside chance to take over centerfield in the Bronx if both Gardner and Melky struggle and he excels. ETA 2010. ...

Damon Wants to Be Back
YanksBlog.com — ... . Nick Swisher is signed through 2011, with a club option for 2012, and Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner are under our control. Austin Jackson is tearing it up at AAA so far this season, hitting .371 with a .444 OBA in 62 at bats over 16 games. Jackson, however, has primarily played center field and it sounds like he's a stronger defender than Gardner. Assuming that Swisher proves dependable, Jackson wins the job and Gardner doesn't really step it up, it would seem that the Yankees will still need one regular corner OF. The ...

On the other hand, your dedicated research will enable you to be even more interested in Spring Training, when many prospects are given a moment in the spotlight. If you're guy happens to have a monster showing at that time, and earn the eye of mainstream reporters or maybe a highlight on Sportscenter, then you can always gloat that you expected this all along, and then explain to your annoyed friends the merit of your prospect over others.
