Colorado Avalanche Trade Ryan Smyth
Avs Talk - A Colorado Avalanche Blog —
I'm in shock. I didn't want to believe the rumors. In fact, during the trade deadline I was quite emphatic that it was all bunk. Turns out, I was wrong. The Avalanche have traded Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings. I haven't yet heard what we're getting in return but I'd guess Doughty is not an option. And AD has the early scoop on the details: Tom Preissing, Kyle Quincey and a 5th-round pick next year. Without researching more on those players, it's a "meh" from me. And dangerously close to a "WTF?". This frees up $6.25M in cap space which should help with Kroenke's goal ...
Smyth A King
KK Hockey —
... TSN,
The Colorado Avalanche have traded Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings.
The 33-year old posted 26 goals and 33 assists in 77 games last season.
Smyth spent most of the first 12 seasons of his career with the Oilers, but after failing to reach a contract agreement, was dealt to the New York Islanders at the trade deadline in 2007.
In that off-season he signed a five-year, $31.25 million deal with the Avalanche.

Rudy is NOT going to be happy
Battle of California —
I don't have a ton of time for this, but I thought I'd get the ball rolling since nothing is up here right now.
Apparently, Ryan Smyth has been trading to the Los Angeles Kings.
My analysis: Bwahahahaha. More from RK and CO. to follow, as the trade details have yet to be hashed out. (H/T to Fear the Fin's Twitter page, heh).
Here's what Rudy wrote about Ryan Smyth for CLS:
1. Which player, for the love of God, do you NOT want to see in your team's sweater in the 09-10 season? Ryan Smyth. He's a potential ...
Avs Trade Smyth to Kings

From TSN.ca:
The Colorado Avalanche have traded Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings for defencemen Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a fifth-round pick.

After losing out on several big UFA’s this week, the Kings finally make a splash and acquire Captain Canada, who at 33 isn’t getting any younger, but is exactly the type of player this young Kings team needs. Quincey put up 38 points in his breakout season and was the key piece in this deal for ...
Kings Acquire Ryan Smyth, Avalanche Dump Salary
FanHouse —
... been used to bring in a big-name player to help boost a young team from Western Conference bottom-feeder to legitimate playoff contender. Personally, I was pushing for disgruntled Senators forward Dany Heatley, who seemed like he would have been a nice fit. The Kings, however, may have found an even better fit, when you consider Heatley is, apparently, out of his mind and doesn't quite know what he wants or where he wants to go. Late Friday night, the Kings acquired veteran forward Ryan Smyth from the Colorado Avalanche for defensemen Kyle ...
Smyth quotes
Inside the Kings —
Ryan Smyth had the following quotes in a TSN story:
``They have great young player. I've always thought the world of (Anze) Kopitar since playing against him at the World Championships in Austria where he dominated. To play with him and Drew Doughty and (Dustin) Brown...these are great young players and I'm excited about that.''
``As a family, we've really enjoyed Colorado. It's been a great place to play and a great place to live and I really think if our team had been healthy over the last two years we would have been a lot better. ... With management and coaching changes, I didn't know (if I would be ...
What Could Have Been: Colorado Avalanche deals ex-Islander Ryan Smyth to Los Angeles
Lighthouse Hockey —
... Well how about that. The Colorado Avalanche just dealt Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings for defensemen Kyle Quincey and Tom Preissing, plus a fifth-round pick. That the Avs have given up on the still-effective Ryan Smyth now, after the club bottomed out this past season, underlines just how lucky the Islanders are that Smyth chased greener, higher altitude pastures in the summer of 2007. The Islanders inadvertently faced reality as a result, and they're better for it now.
I'll admit it: I was one of ...

... fantastic - the rambling, the grammar, the honking geese in the background. Never change America. Interesting piece over at La Presse this morning. Mathias Brunet thinks that all the Habs UFA's were overvalued, considering only one of the ten has signed somewhere, and Bob was right not to offer contracts. A La Presse reporter who says Bob knows what he's doing! It's bizarro world. Around the league, Rick Nash re-upped in Columbus for 8 years, and Ryan Smyth was traded to the Kings. Will there be moves over the U.S. holiday weekend? Who knows. ...
Ryan Smyth Traded to LA Kings
Hockey Beat —
Ryan Smyth was traded to the Colorado Avalanche just two years ago by the Edmonton Oilers but the star player is moving again. The Los Angeles Kings have acquired Smyth and sent the Avs defenceman Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a fifth-round pick in exchange. There were three years remaining on Smyth’s $31.25 million, 5-year deal with Colorado.
The Kings have really been struggling lately but at least the weather in LA is better than Denver, right? fortunately, he seems pretty happy about the move: "They have great ...
Sabres News & Notes From the Weekend
Double Edged Sabres —
If you couldn’t tell, I’m not much of a weekend poster, especially when it falls on holidays. Spent the weekend at the AT&T National down here in Washington D.C, taking in the sport half of the NHL is playing right now.
But there was some news to be had over the weekend, including Sabres Left Wing Clarke MacArthur filing for arbitration. Arbitration is a fickle beast, if you’d recall the 1 year, $5 million contract that the 3rd party handed Daniel Briere a few years back, essentially pricing him right out of Buffalo. The arbitration hearings run from late July through August, but teams and ...
