Three Cheers for Surgically Repaired Knees
FanHouse —
... The term 'microfracture surgery' probably scares more NBA players than the thought of getting viciously dunked on. It's a tough process, even after the procedure: they'd have to be disciplined to go through the rehab while being mentally strong as they try to push all the fears of 'am I still the same player' away. A good deal of NBA players weren't the same after surgery, so that's why I'm that much more appreciative of the feel-good story comebacks of Amare Stoudamire and Jason Kidd. They've not only regained back their knees, but are competing at their normal high intensity level -- well into postseason. Sekou Smith of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Baron's Dunk on AK-47 Wasn't Even His Best Ever
FanHouse —
... Like any basketball fan, I'm completely in awe of the Baron Davis posterization of AK-47 Friday night in Oakland. When you factor in the rowdy crowd, the blowout, the coronary Mike Tirico had on the mic, and the Warriors getting back into the series, it will surely go down as one of the best dunks in NBA playoff history. But was it even the best dunk of his career? Probably not. I just spent considerable time on Youtube, watching and evaluating Baron Davis facials on an assortment of players. There was a

Will Kirilenko Show His Face in Public Again? Game 4 Preview

... Game Three of the Jazz/Warriors series was one of the most entertaining games you'll ever see. The fans were great (as usual); Golden State won in convincing fashion; and Baron Davis put on one hell of a show. Tonight's Game Four is crucially important to both squads: Utah wins and the series is pretty much theirs; Golden State gets the victory and they have all of the momentum. The game will be won at the defensive end. The Jazz need to find a way to limit the Warriors' three point opportunities -- which is hard to do because Don Nelson encourages his boys to launch as soon as they cross the halfcourt line -- and must pound Golden State inside. I know he got dunked on pretty badly in the previous game, but don't let that fool you, Andrei Kirilenko has been an absolute menace on the defensive end. AK-47 is averaging a little over 5 blocks per game during the series. I like Golden State's

... was killing the Dubs in the fourth quarter, and with about 1:30 left and the Jazz up by 9, Baron Davis throws a vicious elbow to Fisher's head for no apparent reason. Then with just over 30 seconds left and the Jazz up 12, Okur goes in for a dunk, and Jason Richardson takes him down by slamming him to the floor. Normally I'd say that Okur got what he deserved, and that the Jazz shouldn't be trying to dunk with the game in hand and such little time left. But remember Baron Davis' dunk on Kirilenko ? The Warriors were up 20 with under three minutes left when Baron threw that one down, so I think Okur was justified in trying to similarly punctuate Utah's win. Remember that in the Warriors' two losses to Dallas, Baron Davis

I respectfully disagree. Baron Davis' humiliating dunk on Kirilenko came with the Warriors up by 20 with under three minutes left, so I see no problem with a member of the Jazz trying to do the same thing: emphasize the win with a dunk after the game has already been decided. Here's video of both incidents from Game 4.
Can the Warriors Bring It Back to Oakland?

... in the first round and Warriors Fever now, Utah has kind-of flown under the radar. Carlos Boozer is destroying the postseason (25 and 12!), Andrei Kirilenko's line goes like 15-7-4-4 for this series, and even foul-plagued Deron Williams is going 20-10 on the Warriors. Utah has been madness the past two weeks, yet all we can talk about is the possibly overdue death of the Golden State bandwagon. That said, it's impossible to ignore lightning in a bottle. And when that lightning starts fizzle out, well it can make for some spectacular fireworks. If Games 1 and 2 were indictments of Nellieball's lack of poise and precision, Games 3 and 4 must've been the final throes of a dying star. The last explosions of life, as seen by Baron Davis' triple-gasp reel in Friday's second half... and the crushing meltdown seen as
