Bautista, Bootcheck, Hansen off 40-man
The Pirates today outrighted right-handed relievers Denny Bautista, Chris Bootcheck and Craig Hansen off the 40-man roster. Bootcheck has elected free agency. The 40-man roster is at 38, plus three players on the 60-day disabled list.

Pirates drop 3 from 40-man roster
North Side Notch — The Pirates outrighted relievers Denny Bautista, Chris Bootcheck, and Craig Hansen this afternoon from the 40-man roster. Bautista, 29, posted a 5.27 ERA in 13.2 innings. In Bautista's 2 seasons with the Pirates, he posted a 5.89 ERA in 55 innings. Bootcheck, 30, posted an 11.05 ERA in 14.2 innings. Hansen, 25, hasn't done much since arriving from Boston in 2008. In 22 innings as a Pirate, he has posted a 6.95 ERA. Hansen was diagnosed with a nerve disease this past year that most likely will put an end to his pitching career. None of these moves are surprising at all and ...
