... One would be correct. When those Brazilian thieves recognized the great Pelé , they’ll steal his gold necklace, cell phone, and watch but let the driver keep a few items out of deference to the wondrous Pelé. Now that’s power, boys and girls, that borders on worship. No one was harmed in the incident, which is so common and so difficult to prosecute in Brazil that it was never even reported to police. Why doesn’t Pelé move to a country where athletes are safe from attack? ...

Pele Robbed at Gunpoint, Still Has All His Goals
Published 6/23/2008 by Daryl at The Offside
... Could you rob a legend? I definitely couldn’t. I can’t even borrow a teabag without getting cold sweats. But 10 armed men in Sao Paulo had no such problems when they pointed guns and knives at Pele and demanded the Brazilian national treasure* hand over his belongings. Pele had to hand over his gold necklace, watch and a mobile phone. Good news is: 1) They didn’t take any of his goals. Pele still has 1,281. 2) The World Cup winner is unhurt and is said to have remained calm (though that could have changed if the robbers had tried to takes 282 or more of his goals.) ...

Pele robbed at gunpoint… in Brazil?!?!?!
Published 6/23/2008 by houroc at SportFiends
Robberies are not uncommon in Brazil but you would think that their half man/half god native Pele would get a pass on that but apparently not. Earlier this month, Pele was robbed at gunpoint by approximately 10 armed men whom he believed were high on drugs. Pele was in the passenger seat of his car. According to his spokesman, when the gang recognised the former player they gave the driver back some items they had taken from him. The #1 Suspect in the Pele Robbery

When I heard the news about Pele being robbed, I was grief stricken. What animal would rob such a great man, a Brazilian National hero, a man more important than the President himself. And then it hit me. A blast from the past. Why the hell would these people try something after all these years? Why couldn't they just let bygones be bygones? Why can't they let a man live a peaceful life?
