Oregon State came into this game having been 41 years since they beat a No. 1 ranked team. They were 25 point underdogs according to the football odds. The Beavers jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime with stellar division play. They continuously moved the ball up and down the field in the first half. Jacquizz Rodgers ran for 186 yards on 37 carries with two touchdowns. Quarterback Lyle Moevao was efficient completing 18 of 26 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns.
USC came out as flat as a pita. Everything they ran in the first half, Oregon State had an answer to. In the second half, they played as the No. 1 team in the nation, out scoring the Beavers 21-7. Quarterback Mark Sanchez had a good day completing 18 of 29 passes for 227 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. That interception, however, was the decisive blow which was returned to the USC 2 yard line. Jacquizz Rodgers plunged for the touchdown and the Trojans trailed 27-14, with the Beavers missing the extra point. USC threw a touchdown pass with a minute nineteen on the clock and could not recover the on-side kick. Most of the betting public was 99.9% sure the Trojans would win.
