Nooooooooooooooooo!

The title of this post can be loosely translated as: "Holy shit, Beckett's hurt again." Per the Globe and Herald, Josh Beckett has been scratched from his start tonight with a "stiff neck" -- and David Pauley has been called up to start in his place. (Joe Thurston was DFA'ed to make room for Pauley on the Sox roster.) Somebody, get the man some ice cream, STAT. I don't care if he wants mint-chocolate- butterscotch-pecan-rainbow-brownie with nuts and sprinkles and whipped cream on top. Give him his own personal ice cream machine that caters to ...

WILL the Red Sox continue their pwnage of the Angels, even with Josh Beckett getting the late scratch? CAN Livan Hernandez continue his winning ways against the surprisingly decent A's? HOW COME no one ever mentions John Smoltz in "best of his generation" debates?" He's had three distinct phases in his career: ...

... Josh Beckett has been scratched tonight due to a stiff neck, and David Pauley gets the emergency start. Pauley saw action as a starter in Boston in 2006, the results of which are best left buried in history. In three starts in Pawtucket this year, Pauley was 1-1 with 2 earned, 8 ks, and 3 walks in 15 and a third. Beckett is ailing from the same bug that bit Tek, and Amalie Benjamin reports that if Tek isn't available and should something unfortunate befall Kevin Cash, Dustin Pedroia has volunteered as the emergency backup catcher. ...

... According to Boston.com, Red Sox ace Josh Beckett has been pulled from tonight’s start due to a “stiff neck”. This has not been an issue for Beckett in the past, so it does not appear to be a major issue. The Red Sox are not sure whether or not Beckett will be pushed back a few days, or skipped in the rotation altogether. David Pauley has been re-called, and will start in Beckett’s place. ...

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 4/22

With the announcement of Josh Beckett being scratched from his start tonight, David Pauley was called up to take his place in the rotation tonight. This isn’t Pauley’s MLB debut however. He made 3 starts for the Red Sox back in 2006. He was 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA back then. Down in Pawtucket this year, Pauley was 1-1 in 3 starts with 1.17 ERA and .91 WHIP.

SOX WIN ONE THEY WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO...AGAIN
When Josh Beckett was scratched from his scheduled start against the Angels and David Pauley replaced him, like most Sox fans I felt like this game probably wouldn't go too well. But this Red Sox team has been anything but predictable this season. Pauley didn't pitch horribly, he made it into the 5th, which is about as much as could be expected. Then Tavarez got 5 outs with relative ease. The ...

Grinding out hits. Grinding out runs. That's the way the Sox are trying to do it tonight. It's 5-2 Angels heading into the bottom of the fifth. David Pauley has just come out after allowing a one-out single to Garret Anderson in the fifth. Julian Tavarez is in. Pauley threw 89 pitches, 56 for strikes. His line: 4-1/3 innings, seven hits, five runs, two walks, three Ks. Pauley was ...

Pauley sure seems relaxed
Maybe if David Pauley gets to stay in the majors for an extended period he will not do what he just did this afternoon. Right now, though, Pauley is a relaxed and amiable guy, even on a day that has turned into one of the biggest of his career. As Steven Krasner reported here earlier, the 24-year-old right-hander has been called up from Pawtucket to pitch against the Angels tonight, an ...
