Belliard Re-Signs
Published 7/23/2007 by Chris Needham at Capitol Punishment
Svrluga reports that the Nats have signed Ron Belliard to a two-year contract. No terms yet. Interesting... It'll depend on how much the cash outlay is, but this is an interesting move. I like the guy, and he's played well, but 2B never age particularly well, and nobody looks at Belliard and thinks "athlete." (Of course, his larger size might be a reason why he could outlast the typical waif-like second basemen?) Still, he's a solid player, and he's proven himself to be valuable, zipping all over the infield. I wonder, though, what, if anything, this means about their upcoming decision on Felipe Lopez? The terms of the deal'll let us know. I'll have more as we know more!

Dang, my psychic powers are strong ;-) Thom Loverro recently published a column saying that Nationals fans need to come up with creative player-based ...

Good for Ronnie; Bad for FLop?
Published 7/24/2007 by Nate at Nats Triple Play
The Post is reporting that Ronnie Belliard has signed a 2-year extension that will keep him with the Nationals through the 2009 season. Terms, per Barry's "major league source" are: $1.6M for 2008, $1.9M for 2009, grand total of $3.5M for the life of the deal. It's a healthy raise over the $850,000 Ronnie's making this year, but not at all out of line for a top utility infielder and sometime starting second baseman. ...
