Bend it like LA Galaxy defense - David Beckham debuts Links0
So it was a big day for David Beckham and the LA Galaxy. Chelsea was in the house and beat the home team but only by one goal. Final score:1-0 thanks to the brave effort of Galaxy’s defense. Galaxy’s Xavier definitely earned his salary today by blocking more quality shots than he probably has so far in the season. Must be the hair.

ESPN’s coverage of today’s match started with a David Beckham special that mostly concentrated on the past few months of the hype; from his final game and championship celebration with Real Madrid to his arrival to Los Angeles. Pre-game show proved that all the celebrities had showed up at the stadium and wanted a piece of the Beckham hype as well.

The game was scoreless after the first half, and stats were heavily favoring Chelsea but Galaxy was still in the game and anything was possible. Chelsea’s domination continued in the second half and they scored via John Terry (unassisted, 49').  He's actually the guy who replaced David Beckham recently as England captain.  Another Chelsea goal was whistled down as an offside. Landon Donovan had a chance to tie the game but his header went over the goal. Golden opportunity that was missed by this experienced midfielder. The moment that the sold out Home Depot Center, those who had been watching the Beckham cam and fans all over the country had been waiting for came at the 78th minute of the game as David Beckham came in for the final 15 minutes of the match and the crowd went crazy. Stadium was all the sudden brightened up by flashing cameras and every single person wanted to make sure they got a picture of the historical moment of Beckham’s first appearance as an LA Galaxy. That’s exactly what he did today; an appearance. He’s still recovering from his ankle injury but wanted anxiously to show his appreciation to all his fans. Very respectable move that actually looked like could have resulted in injuring his ankle even more when he collided with a Chelsea midfielder (90'). Luckily he walked away without any further injuries. Oh yeah, that Chelsea player didn’t injure himself either.

Sold out stadium, cheering fans, recent Premier League champions and David Beckham. Sounds like a pretty good day of soccer to me which I wish I could have experienced at the Home Depot Center instead of watching it on TV. Hopefully everybody else watching the game from the comfort of their own living rooms felt the same and will crowd the soccer stadiums across the country.

Sadly, I got suckered in to the huge media hype surrounding David Beckham's first game for the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday. I watched the game, and all 15 minutes that Becks played. For the most part I enjoyed the spectacle, I was shocked that the MLS and ESPN could put on a relatively entertaining program, considering the star of the show barely played. The one problem I had with the whole ...
