The most interesting aspect of the Heisman Trophy is always the players it excludes as a matter of course. With the field of favorites rapidly narrowing down the stretch, Alternate Heisman Reality looks at some of the more deserving candidates off the beaten path. Today: Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt.

Buckeyes: Buckeye Leaves
Ohio Sports Report —
... with Wisconsin leading the pack with five first-teamers, and Iowa and Penn State with four each. One thing that still has me scratching my head is how Michigan (1-7 in Big Ten play, if you'll recall) placed three players on the writers' first team (the very deserving Brandon Graham, the questionable Donovan Warren, and the overworked punter Zoltan Mesko) while the outright conference champs had but two. You figure it out. See the lists for yourself at the official Big Ten site here . Rivals.com managed to select an ...
We Hardly Knew Ye: Arrelious Benn's potential is taking the next step
Dr. Saturday —
... to his erratic freshman self and was benched by midseason as the Illini lost their first six games against teams that weren't Illinois State. Amidst the chaos at quarterback, Benn's production shriveled from 67 catches for more than 1,000 yards in 2008, the second-best number in the conference, to just 38 grabs for 490 yards this fall, dropping him behind such luminaries as Damarlo Belcher, Aaron Valentin and Graham Zug on the conference list. From there, he was lucky to earn an honorable mention nod on the All-Big Ten team, which seems more like a nod to the ...
