Now that Boston has won two World Series in the last four years, Red Sox Nation was finally ready to forgive Bill Buckner.

BILL BUCKNER FORGIVEN, DICE-K WINS
With Leather —

Dice-K is now 2-0, and no: there will not be a new Yoko pic EVERY time he pitches. Why? Because I'm mean. Of course, the big story revolves around the pre-game ceremonies, in which the Red Sox received their championship rings commemorating their second World Series win in four years. Thus it was also a good time to bring out Bill Buckner, the scapegoat for the team's World Series ...

Billy Buck — YankeesRedSox.com
Bill Buckner, doesn't owe Red Sox fans anything. There’s no need to apologize and there no need for any forgiveness. The Red Sox blew the 1986 World Series, not Bill Buckner. I could not have been happier at the sight of Buckner walking towards the mound from left field to throw out the first pitch. I was quite surprised he accepted, but I’m glad he did. ...
Game 8: Buckner honored; Dice-K cruises to 5-0 victory — The Bottom Line
Red Sox 5 Tigers 0 I spent most of the day running from my desk to the break room TV yesterday trying to catch glimpses of the Opening Day festivities. It was a blur of Red and Blue from 1:00 to 2:00, culminating with the introduction of Bill Buckner, the "mystery first pitch thrower." I'm well aware of the defining moment in Buckner's career, but I never had the anger towards him that many ...
Bill Buckner finally, fully, and completely reverses the curse — for Boston and for me — Bugs & Cranks
In 2003, when my friend F.J. thought the Red Sox were going to beat the Cubs in the World Series, he announced his choice for the first pitch the next year at Fenway. “Bill Buckner,” he’d say. “The guy had Hall of Fame numbers.” I thought it was a good choice, although I didn’t really believe the Sox would win, not for a few more decades, maybe not in my ...

Bill Buckner threw out the first pitch on Opening Day at Fenway Park.
That's a sentence I'm not sure I ever expected to write. And one that encapsulates everything that's happened since 2004 as well as any other. Billy Buck never deserved the scorn he received after 1986, for so many reasons documented here and elsewhere, but even so, he lived
