Bill Simmons upset about lack of charity auction publicity?
ESPN columnist Bill Simmons' candid email exchange yesterday reminded me of another exchange he had about the WWL: Mine. Basic gist: Mr. Sports Guy said he was not allowed to "do publicity" for a charity auction that raised thousands of dollars for the Jimmy Fund. [link]

What to Watch for: Series Shifts Back to Beantown for Game 5
You had to love Boston faithful Bill Simmons’ article this morning on ESPN.com. If you didn’t, then you’re just not a fan of sports and/or sports writing. Cavs fans may be more upset about the fact that the turnaround in this best-of-seven is being looked at more as a “Boston collapse” than a “Cleveland surge.” Looking at this series nationally as ...
Bill Simmons Keeps Posting on His Blog, Implies ESPN.com Editors Cut His Best Jokes
ESPN.com columnist Bill Simmons is continuing to sound sullen notes about his bosses. The latest comes from his personal blog , where he's begun posting old columns from before he worked for ESPN. In introducing a column that he wrote on March 2, 1999, Simmons says of his writing style at the time, " I was starting to find a groove and my column was starting to resemble what it's like now, ...
Gus Johnson: Longtime Desire to Commentate Mixed Martial Arts
It turns out that Gus Johnson might be a bigger asset to CBS than we in the blogosphere realize : In an interview with ESPN’s Bill Simmons, Gus Johnson (NFL on CBS & MSG sports announcer) revealed to Simmons (audio starts at the 29 minute mark) that he had/has aspirations to do play-by-play for MMA events. In fact, according to Johnson, he was scheduled to be the original ...
Gus Johnson is ready to run wild, brother
Intriguingly, Gus Johnson of CBS Sports will be the play-by-play man for the Elite XC debut show on CBS. I have ribbed Mauro Ranallo about this in the past, but make no mistake about it - Johnson (in an interview with Bill Simmons on ESPN) was very serious about getting into MMA. You [...]
Leaping the Selachimorpha
by Ryan Does anyone remember when ESPN's Page 2 was good? I do. In fact, like many bloggers out there, Page 2 was my link to the underground. It was a different take on sports, one that reminded you of what you did with friends when watching the game. Bill Simmons was there, Dan Shanoff had the Daily Quickie, and it made ESPN.com something that was more than just "news." In fact, one of the ...
Say It Ain't So, Bill. Say It Ain't So.
I think you can make a pretty good case that Bill Simmons changed sports journalism. Sure, there have been plenty of authors out there who have written books with more journalistic cred than " Now I Can Die in Peace " but you can't tell me there aren't a whole legion of bloggers, journalists and assorted columnists who wouldn't kill to have a following like ESPN's The Sports Guy. Week after ...
Bill Simmons Is Enjoying His "Rebellious" Status [Bill Simmons]
Ever since his gauntlet-throwing interview with us last week , Bill Simmons has been doodling with his blogspot page . Amusingly, he seems to be drawing a parallel between himself and Tom Cruise's character in The Firm . He has a still of Cruise from the film up right now, and yesterday — before taking it down over night — he actually was signed in as "Mitch McDeere." If you ...
Bill Simmons Analogies: Boston Fans
Look, everybody knows that one of the godfathers of sports blogging, whether he wants to admit it or not, is ESPN’s Bill Simmons. One of the most amusing parts of Simmons’ columns is how he often finds the “real life equivalent” to various sports and pop culture phenomena, and if I tried to pass off this column as anything but a direct import of that concept, it would ...

Simmons hates ESPN
Bill Simmons and ESPN have apparently not been getting along lately, leading to a major drop in Sports Guy articles. As much as I think the guy can be quite an idiot at times, and his homerism makes Dawger look balanced, he's pretty entertaining most of the time, so this is bad news. Plus, he was pretty easy to make fun of. Here is the link from deadspin. Whole post here: We're not the only ...

I'm sure more than a few of you out there read Bill Simmons, and you may have noticed that until yesterday he hadn't been writing much for ESPN over the past two weeks. Bill Simmons Is Unhappy With ESPN and Posting on His Own Blog

Simmons And ESPN Not Currently Seeing Eye To Eye
Interesting item over at Deadspin today about a dialogue that they had with Bill Simmons recently.
