Jamaal Magloire having a big game with 15 boards and 2 blocks, the Raptors “glut” at power forward, the importance of Toronto's role players, Toronto and Portland both having a record of 12-15 yet Toronto has a shot at the playoffs while the Blazers are probably out of luck because they play in the Western Conference, the emergence of rookie Brandon Roy with 16 points, 10 boards and 8 dimes off the bench, the search for a nickname for Sergio Rodriguez.

Game Thread #26: Phoenix Suns vs Portland Trailblazers
Bright Side Of The Sun —
I know I'm really late in posting this today. Call it Christmas-hangover. Tonight's game should be interesting because the Phoenix Suns players are ticked that they lost to the Wizards on Friday night. Now they're all rested and they should be taking out their frustration on the Trailblazers. Even the Blazers SBN blogger, Dave, thinks the same thing. I think the Suns will win the game 122-97. Merry Christmas! I'll definitely post more after the game and in future games.
Game 31 - vs Portland
Sactown Royalty —
Busy weekend, so I'm going to send you to Blazers Edge for all the Portland insight I couldn't give you anyways. I doubt we'll see Justin Williams tonight, though that's the most exciting part of Kings v. Blazers anyone's going to get. This is a game the Kings should definitely win, so anything less is an abject failure. Enjoy the game! (I'll be watching it when I wake up in the morning.)

Bright Side Of The Sun —
... Hello Phoenix Suns fans! Hope you're enjoying the arctic winter chill down there. What is it, 68 degrees? Sweater time, eh? This is Dave from Blazersedge.com, a sister site to this very blog on SportsBlog Nation. (No cracks about it being a weak sister site either...no fair kicking the Blazers while they're down.) Dan has been kind enough to dispense some wisdom about tonight's game on Blazersedge (the gist of it: DUCK!!!) so I'm returning the favor here. It's not like you don't know that the Suns are going to win by 50 ...

That's probably not a good thing. For the Wizards to win going away, Caron Butler and DeShawn Stevenson have to be very good, particularly Butler, who has struggled of late. You may or may not be aware that Clips Nation is part of a larger community of Sports Blogs called SB Nation. The NBA contingent of blogs is relatively small but includes several of the crown jewels of the basketball blogosphere - I'm a little shocked that Clips Nation is in any way associated with established and successful blogs like Blog-a-Bull, Golden State of Mind, Blazer's Edge and Sactown Royalty. But guess what ... this is a must win situation! 1.5 games out of 8th place, sitting right behind the Kings, and tonight we play the Portland Trailblazers (formerly known as the Jail Blazers). We are pretty pathetic on the road and sometimes it makes me wish I could use profanity on this blog. But, if we don't take care of business against poor teams like the Blazers, then we really have no shot at the playoffs. What's even worse, our friends at BlazersEdge and I have a little wager for tonight's game. Nothing serious but if the Warriors ...

Greg Oden - Done for the Season
Golden State Of Mind —
Only one wil play this season It's a sad day for not only Portland Trailblazer fans but for NBA fans. Greg Oden is officially done for the season and will have microfracture surgery on his knee. The #1 pick in the draft, the player the Trailblazers had pinned the future of their franchise on, will make his debut in 2008 rather than `07. I feel bad for the guys over at SB Nation site, Blazers Edge who have to endure it. Even one of my favorite sports writers, Bill Simmons, wrote on the topic, Blazers don't deserve Bowie ...

... a team that won 13 in a row at one point and then 17 of 18, it is odd that Portland is only 3 games over .500. I think it is due to a combination of things. Brandon Roy missed some time, which is never a good thing. Add that to their inexperience, reliance on outside shots, the rest of the League figuring them out and the fact that they could not stay that hot forever, and perhaps it is not that surprising. Great read on the NBA draft
Frank's Sports Opinion —
Dave over at Blazer’s Edge has a great article …Weighing the Draft. One of the best things about this article is that his tips can actually be applied to other league drafts like the NFL or MLB. I’m a fan of mock draft’s, if for no other reason than it gives me more insight into the player’s coming into the league. Of course you have to filter out some of the b.s. your sure to find among them, but they do make for some great and lively discussions.

It really has been too long since last post. Call it a combination of "important" deadlines to meet and of having to endure so much Blazers pointguard talk that my immune system finally shut down in defense. If there were a Blazers blog emperor (Dave?), I would formally request this deity to order a week long stoppage on all Blazers pointguard speculation. Just long enough for us all to get a little sanity back. Naturally, I would sign this request with seppuku. ...

Ben from Blazers Edge was in Vegas for the SL and recently wrote up a little report on his experiences for Hardwood Paroxysm, and in his report there's a little tidbit that helps clear up why Nick Young was so out of sorts that week:

3 Shades of Blue —
A guest post from Blazer's Edge Earlier this week I sent out a question to Dave at Blazer's Edge asking him what the Grizzlies have in store since Portland had recently undergone a youth movement of their own which turned out pretty well. So without further ado here is Dave's response. Memphis is going to experience the joys and trials of youth, that’s for sure. ...

Preview & Chat: The Portland Trailblazers
Forum Blue And Gold —
... assignments instead of roaming passing lanes, and making emergency big man rotations a huge priority. All of that combined contributed to the weakness in eventual rebounding position. Plus the Blazers couldn’t force a turnover against a blindfolded kindergartener with Crisco on his hands. Again, you don’t need a Golden State-type defense but you do need more disruption, more risk-taking, and more confidence in your backstop if those risks fail.

Anything more is several steps down the road at this point in a season where you have to take one game at a time. The expectations created by fans and the media roll off of these guys' backs like water off a duck. I don't think they'll listen to anybody but their coaches and themselves. ...

NBA Opening Night : Tension and Drama
A Stern Warning - NBA, NBL and FIBA News & Views —
... Bulls were ahead at every quarter break. Michael Redd put up 30 points for the Bucks, who are integrating Richard Jefferson (15 points) into the lineup as well as Luke Ridnour at the point, following the departure of Mo Williams. Andrew Bogut played 25 minutes for 9 points and 7 rebounds, despite recent injury concerns. ... Be sure to check out the best NBA blog on the planet run by some very smart and decent guys - Blazers Edge and be ready to welcome a lot of wandering Blazer's fans to BSoS. They will certainly drop by and leave some comments but should be much more civil guests then we sometimes see from other teams (Spurs..cough...Lakers). ...

David West was solid again. Such a smooth player.
No repeat performance from Rudy.
Batum has officially looked his age.
Brandon was also good in spurts, and sort of forced a late 3. (We still love you.)

Oden's giant goal-tend blocked shot. (Better footage when it's available. Thanks anyway though Ben!) ...

Sean at Oregon Live has all the current Blazer power rankings you'll ever need. Blazer's Edge has a game preview and plenty more goodness. Blaze of Love has not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 15 thoughts on tonight's game! Golden State of Mind has a whole lot of nothing on tonight's game, maybe something pops up later? Stormin Orman agrees with my take on Greg Oden, I love the enthusiasm. I, like Joe Freeman, will be stoked when Martell comes back ...

Game Preview #12 - Chicago Bulls at Portland Trail Blazers

... over him the way we salivate over Rose. Of course, he may have just been excited over getting to face the Bulls' interior defense tonight. For better or worse, I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Aaron Gray tonight. Suns beat back Blazers: 102-92
Bright Side Of The Sun —
Is it good defense or bad shooting?
Early in the game the Suns defense was very active both inside and out. Amare especially came out on the defensive end and was great on the glass and on help D. He was solid manning up on Aldridge as well.
That said, both teams shot poorly with Bell and Barnes firing bricks and the Blazers (other then Roy) just as cold.
Blazers Edge * Box Score * Recap
In the 3rd quarter, Blake came out firing and that seemed to wake the Suns up. It felt a little like the old days when the energy ...
