Because the Western Conference wasn't stacked already

... tossing themselves off buildings tonight. In any event, the already mammoth Western Conference got a luxurious infusion of star power in tonight's draft lottery , when the Blazers snagged the first pick, followed by Seattle at number two. That means in one form or another, Greg Oden and Kevin Durant are about to make the Pacific Northwest about much more than rain, lush green space, and concern for global warming. About the only thing that kept the E.C. from risking permanent fiefdom (at least as measured by number of quality teams) was Atlanta sneaking up a spot to number three, robbing Phoenix of the opportunity to steal their pick and beef up an already quality squad.

Karmic Payback’s a Bitch, Folks.
Signal to Noise —
... I actually feel for fans of the Celtics, Bucks, and Grizzlies (if they have any.) They didn’t deserve to be this disappointed on the lottery day, and wondering what their teams are supposed to be doing. Every shitty GM was punished for being junk — Minnesota’s Kevin McHale, Boston’s Danny Ainge, and whomever is heading the Bucks weren’t rewarded for tanking (I don’t think Memphis really tanked, they were just that bad as a team.)
Everything Brandon Roy touches turns to gold
The Big Picture —
... Because winning Rookie of the Year wasn't enough, B-Roy rubbed his good fortune off on some ping pong balls and will help the Blazers -- ideally -- get next year's Rookie of the Year too.

Gangsta D: If life were fair I would've banged Jessica Alba multiple times by now. Da Realist: listen... we are going to fight if you keep mentioning my girl's name in vain like that. go after jessica biel or jessica simpson or something. you don't "bang" jessica alba, d'accord? by the way, she's on the latest issue of GQ magazine. eff beyonce, jessica is NICE. Waldini: Yea I was at the airport and saw Beyonce on the cover of Vibe and Jessica on the cover of GQ. Damn why didnt I subscribe to GQ :-)? Gangsta D: Your girl? I was hip to Jess in '99, before ANYBODY knew who she was. I believe I have dibs on her:) Da Realist: '99? when did 'dark angel' come out? was it after then? Gangsta D: Fall 2000 season. I saw her in January '
Jerry West Has a Right to Be Upset About the Draft Lottery
FanHouse —
... yesterday, I became a little bit upset. In the post Mr. Berger criticized current Memphis Grizzlies GM Jerry West for these comments following the draft lottery: "It's like pitching pennies. It's grossly unfair to the team, but I've said it before, I don't think the lottery is fair. I never liked it. I don't think it's a good system at all, period. "There have been a lot of picks in the lottery that have [failed]. There are two in the lottery this year that are not going to fail. There are two superstars in the draft. I think for the teams fortunate enough to get them, the fortunes of their franchises have changed forever." Berger categorized the comments as "sour grapes", stating that Mr. West only made the comments because his team lost the lottery. However, being the media watch dog that I am, I know that Jerry West had been urging the league to change its current lottery system long before Tuesday's draft

... They Bucks could win 29 or 30 games and finish in last place in the Central again. Not cool? Think again. Last season, the Trailblazers, the eventual overall number one draft pick holders, went 32-50. So in the event the Bucks don't climb into the postseason as center of all national media attention and as the hottest team in the NBA, they very well could land the top pick in the draft, which could net them a star-in-the-making such as Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose. ...
