Early Take on the MVP/RoY Races

... will be polling several NBA bloggers throughout the season to get their takes on the Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year races. Contributors have been instructed to rank candidates on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 and 5-4-3-2-1 point scale respectively (i.e., 10 is a person's first choice for MVP), based on the entire season to date, not who we think will be the best player by the end of the year or who has played well in a recent stretch. Alex and Frank at BrewHoop solicited input from a bunch of NBA bloggers for their MVP and ROY choices so far. Check out the results. FWIW, I went with Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant. Also, if you look closely in the 'others' list on MVP, you'll see Chris Kaman. I had to give him my 10th place vote. And if Thornton can get some minutes, maybe he'll start climbing the ROY rankings.

UPDATE: Dwight Howard earned Player of the Week honors earlier today, but that wasn't even the best news for him. He, along with Utah's Carlos Boozer, earned Player of the Month honors for November. Dwight also won the award in April 2006 and November 2006. Congratulations, Dwight! For the second time this season, Dwight Howard won the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award after averaging 23.8 points and 15.3 rebounds. Congratulations, Dwight!
