BlogPoll Ballot: Week 1P
Published 8/20/2007 by Jason at Eleven Warriors
... It’s completely transparent and the voters all really know their teams and the sport. You can make a case for homerism, but because of the transparency, every ballot is on display for the world to see. Another neat feature is that the BlogPoll is people powered in the sense that a given blog’s community helps shape the ballot. The goal is to have our ballot posted on this site early Mondays throughout the season. Then after a round of comments, the ballot is updated if needed, and then sent off to the big show. ...

... (to see every ballot by voter, go here). Brian does a really good job of presenting various views on the data and the 11W ballot came in 5th place for "Mr. Numb Existence", meaning that our ballot was 5th-least divergent from the poll at large. Some call that numb, while we like to refer to it as feeling what the people are thinking. Sports populism if you will. ...

Things are coming together nicely.

... The voters saw fit to take votes away from SC because of their "performance" against Idaho and then going on a bye week. Fine but when you look at the other teams in the title hunt I see a Florida team that has yet to go on the road whose first 2 games were against cup cakes. I see an LSU team that has beaten an SEC bottom feeder on the road demolish an average at best VA Tech team and thrash another cupcake that is Middle Tennessee. Oklahoma has yet to go to the road they have beat 2 cupcakes and beat a rebuilding though still talented Miami team. I would agree that SC's "win" over Idaho lacked style but a win is a win. Those of us in the BlogPoll try our best to watch every game that we can so we can and make educated decisions on who should be where. I can pretty much guarantee that the a good number of MSM voters don't do that. ...

... and here are individual ballots for all blogpollers. I did swap Miami and VT after rethinking. Not sure the Hokies really are deserving but even that shellacking from LSU was more than could be said for anyone else to go in ahead of them. I appreciated Sean pointing out that Nebraska somehow moved up. That, was just crazy talk. But, no way am I considering UCLA until they prove they can win a real game. I don t think Wisconsin is very good, but I just couldn t put anyone else higher. They aren t impressive, but they keep winning. Dropping them out of the top-ten seemed like enough for now.

... Moving on, I present my BlogPoll ballot. I'll try to take time Wednesday morning to look at any comments you have on my ballot and make corrections. A note on methodology: I went through once adjusting my ballot from last week to reflect actual results and changes in my perception of teams. Then I consulted the ballots of other BlogPollers whose opinions I respect, using them to tweak my ballot and resolve logjams between teams. Lastly, I used the BCS computer rankings as a sort of check (e.g., "The computers have Oklahoma 11th. If they were called, say, Buffalo instead of Oklahoma, would you still have them third? No? Move 'em."). I didn't pay much attention to the Coaches and Harris polls, and none at all to the AP. Anyway, onward: ...

Though the majority of voters have Texas and Michigan ranked within five or six spots of one another (fair enough), a handful of voters see something that I'm having trouble comprehending. ...

Hurray, that's the poll hurray. If you're interested, you can see all the individual ballots here. It's neck and neck for number one, but not a tie. The average above is approximate; LSU does have a tiny lead with 1299 points to Oregon's 1295. How can Oregon be second with more first place votes than any other team? Four flatly indefensible votes from people placing Oregon outside of the top four. These come from Big Red Network, Eagle In Atlanta, Pitch Right, and Saurian Sagacity. The former two rank Oregon #5, the latter two #7. All voters ...
Kansas?!?! : A Pre-Emptive Strike in Defense of My BlogPoll Ballot
Published 11/21/2007 by T Kyle King <info@dawgsports.com> at Dawg Sports: Front Page Posts
The new BlogPoll is scheduled to be released tomorrow and my ballot once again may draw the same stern rebuke to which I was subjected after last week's ballot, because I (with all due respect to my SB Nation colleague at Rock Chalk Talk) believe Kansas has demonstrated little by going undefeated against a woeful schedule. It appears I am in the minority among BlogPollsters upon this point, which seems strange to me, in light of the fact that, when LD meticulously debunked the Jayhawk myth, his analysis was met with the ...

Hurray, that's the poll hurray. If you're interested, you can see all the individual ballots here. Dennis Dixon's knee exploded -- again -- and Oregon's mojo went with it, clearing up what used to be a heated debate about who is #1. There is no debate now: it's LSU. Both Oregon, last week's #2, and Oklahoma, last week's #3, take the pipe and slide down to the edge of the top ten. Everyone else slides up two. The rest of the poll is fairly rote save for some extra Illinois respek and the odd specter of Boise State above Hawaii. What? More on this later. ...
