Carl Edwards could've played it safe during the stretch run of Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway. But what's the fun in that? Edwards tried every trick in his repertoire to pass Jimmie Johnson on the final lap -- including a barrier-banging "banzai move" -- before conceding victory to the new Chase points leader, writes Terry Blount.

‘Banzai’ finish revs up NASCAR

Carl Edwards took his best shot. And this car took a shot against the wall on the final lap, allowing Jimmie Johnson to win at Kansas in a fun-filled, fantastic finish. Edwards drove down hard in an attempt to pass the "48." The move worked except what goes down must come up. The "99" shot up the bank, into the wall and Johnson drove by to victory. Edwards held for second in what was a race that gave NASCAR fans exactly what they wanted: EXCITEMENT! ...
