Brian Sabean: Still an Idiot
Sportszilla and the Jabber Jocks — So the Giants are apparently parting ways with Barry Bonds after this year. Makes sense. After all, he was nothing but an aging slugger who was so desperate to break the all-time home run record that he dragged his team down with him. Ok, sure, he posted a 1.053 OPS, but come on, that was only .280 better than the next highest regular (Randy Winn). And yeah, he wasn't the guy who decided spending $126 million on Barry "4.99 xFIP" Zito was a good idea, but it's not like Bonds is some great pitcher. Seriously, the Giants are morons. Bonds can still hit, and he can still draw fans. Who the hell are people in San Francisco going to go see now? Tim "Inevitable Arm Injury" Lincecum? Pedro Feliz? Sure, Bonds doesn't solve the bigger problem for the Giants, namely that their GM Brian Sabean is, as the title of this post points out, still an idiot. The team, despite what ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick thinks, does not have a " ...

The Week In Quotes: September 17-23 by Alex Carnevale
Baseball Prospectus — ... announced they would not sign Barry Bonds for another year. "I keep hearing that the Giants' goal is to get younger for the future. Obviously, Barry is their oldest player. But it seems sort of contradictory to get rid of your oldest player when he's the best player on the club." --Borris "He's not horrible, but he's below average by major league standards now. I would think if you wanted to get the most out of him as a hitter, you'd want him to be in the American League where he could DH at least some of the time." --anonymous scout, on Bonds' lack of range in left field. (Jerry Crasnick, ESPN.com ) JEFF KENT, CONNECTING TO A NEW GENERATION OF LOGAN WHITE'S GUYS "Who said he was a leader?" -- ...

giantcove.com 9/22/2007 — Dear Peter Magowan and other wimpy owners; I have a few things that I would like to bring to your attention: 1. Who do you think was the deciding reason that the San Francisco voters passed the proposition by a very little margin to build PACIFIC BELL, SBC, AT&T PARK, or whatever it might be called next year? 2. Who do you think is the greatest player to ever put on the San Francisco ...

Giants End Bonds Era
imwritingsports.com 9/22/2007 — I knew the day was going to come when I picked up the paper and saw the words “Magowan and Bonds part ways,” but I still wasn’t ready for it. This move will certainly lose them a few dollars, but it makes sense. It was just the natural progression of things. To move forward they had to cut his face out of the family photo. It was harsh. Bonds had no desire to leave the franchise that...
