Reason for optimism, but Yanks need baserunners

... Stadium will echo the one the Yankees delivered in 1973, when the old Stadium closed with a quiet loss to the Tigers closing out an 80-82 season. Or maybe there are still grand things ahead. Either way, it is far better to listen to the reassurance in the manager's office, and in the clubhouse, than the hint of potential panic emanating from the owner's suite. Agreed. Vaccaro goes on to warn Hank to stay away from David Wells, too, because -- well, Um ... -- Hank Steinbrenner has been talking about David Wells coming back for a third time. No thanks, though. The Yanks are ...

David Wells: "I'm in shape."
Published 5/9/2008 by Patrick at YanksBlog.com
What should we talk about? The Joba fist pump? Hmm... no, I think I'll take a pass on that one. Let's talk about David Wells. Mike Puma at the Post spoke with David Wells and Hank Steinbrenner about a potential return to the Yankees. Yes, you read that right. That's Yankeeland! Hank tells Puma that he saw Wells on TV and he was thinking about it at that point. He notes that Wells hasn't come up in any conversations but, "you never know." He also said that Wells will always be a Yankee to him. Wells won't always be a Yankee to me. To me, he'll be a Blue Jay, Tiger, Red, ...

The NY Post is reporting this morning that David Wells would like to return to the Yankees...again. Wells turns 45 on May 20 (same day as our guy Bobby Murcer), and due to being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, has dropped 20 pounds (his reported weight is 245). "I'm in shape, I'd just have to fine-tune a couple of things," Wells said. "I'd need a little bit of time, but not much. Physically I feel fine, real good." "If you're not going that good, what the hell, it doesn't hurt ...

Published 5/10/2008 by Ross (noreply@blogger.com) at Yankee Stadium Insider Blog
Came across this article from the NY Post today hinting that David Wells wants to return to the Yankees for round III. team spokesman Team owner Hank Steinbrenner had this to say: "I've thought about it," Steinbrenner told The Post. "I saw him on TV, and I did think about it when I was watching." In true NY Post tabloid fever fashion, there were no direct quotes from Boomer about the possibility of returning to the NY Yankees, but just returning to baseball in general: "I'm in shape, I'd just have to ...

Hank, Wells deserve each other
Published 5/10/2008 by Ed Valentine at Bugs & Cranks
Ahh, Hank loves David! Should we, as New York Yankees fans, be surprised? I think not. After all, look at the similarities between Hank Steinbrenner and David Wells. Out of shape? Check! Both are on the round side, though Wells is actually approaching the ‘two seats on the plane necessary’ variety of wide. Loud, abrasive and often obnoxious? Check! They both love to hear themselves talk, have opinions about everything and are good at making people mad. Bad habits? Check! ...
