Papelbon's "New" Pitch
Published 8/22/2007 by Luol Dang! at The Smittblog
... Pitchers like to be known for their pitches. Sutter's splitter, Fernando's screwball, Mussina's late 90's knuckle-curve, Mariano's cutter, and Michael Kay's pet name for Clemens signature pitch: Mr. Splitty, just to name a few. I'm going to have to tread very carefully here, but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that Jonathan Papelbon has developed a new pitch: "the slutter." At least that's what Paps called in front of reporters the other night. It's apparently a combination cut fastball-slider, prompting the, um, colorful name. From the Boston Globe via ...
